Does anyone drive Tanker for FFE??? and if you do. how do you like it?

I don't know specifics, nor do I work for FFE but I wanted to throw my two cents in.....with the oil boom here in the US in the last couple years, I'm learning about more and more companies that are getting into the tanker business, whether it be hauling water to frac drilling sites or hauling frac sand in pneumatic tankers. As a pneumatic operator, I would imagine both gigs are relatively easy gigs. Steven's Transport out of Dallas is involved with water tankers, Schneider National is involved with frac sand in pneumatics, Swift is running water tankers up in North Dakota....all I feel would be pretty straight forward, relatively easy gigs. Work your 10hr shift as you say, and go home. The other interesting part is because this is so new, and most companies didn't have tankers prior to the oil boom, you almost can guarantee your equipment is going to be new as well...another plus. Not sure on pay though. I know it might not help, but may offer some insight into the job.

 

FFE tanker is oilfield work, in the Midland/Odessa area of TX. I drive tanker for them, but I'm not in TX and it's on a dedicated account, running smoothbore tankers (and, they are only 3-5 of us that do it here). Different situation entirely, I'm sure.

 

I don't do it consistently, as several of the senior guys here prefer it. Typically I haul reefer, with some end dump and tanker thrown in randomly. I might do once a week, or go several weeks without doing any at all. We haul to the same customers week in and week out, but it's far from a set route.

On my dedicated gig, I typically get about 2200-2800 miles/week, am usually home throughout the week and on weekends. .38cpm, but our account is local, doesn't often go outside NY/NJ/PA/New England, and requires minimum 2 years experience. Also, you'd need to live within 50 miles of the terminal in NE PA for it to really make sense.
