Recently the wife and I have been thinking about ( moving ). Reasons are do to the SLOW, economy here in the Buckeye.

I haven't done much or little to NONE, research on where I would be able to move the Family and Company and be just as productive or moreso than here.
It's getting GRIM up here and things are not looking good if we actually do an outlook for 2008.

Any word on where one can move his family and business to that s/he can survive in this economic disaster we are close to?

The wife has a Best friend in Ocala,FL and we are into Heavy Highway building with Dumps. Im thinking possibly to start contacting some highway contractors in FL around Ocala to test the waters. Ask about business and so on.

Im not willing to give up what I've got, or have been building for years do to the Economy. I've worked very hard for what we've got and If I have to pick up and MOVE it I'll have to do just so.

Any IDEAS? Any BAD, or GOOD comments?
Im ALL eye's and Ears brothers...

    All the best,
    Matt

Las Vegas has been booming in the construction industry for years (seems like 2/3 trucks are construction trucks!)....But, things are slowing down, as almost as many are leaving there as arriving monthly! Vegas is 'Fantasyland" and not family friendly with little sub-culture for them! And, per a show that I saw about "Drought" in the American West, it will be the 1st to go (turn into a ghost town after 30 yrs into the 'Big Drought!'). The poor Col River is supplying water to the whole SW....AZ (Phx is also growing too fast!), S. CA Imperial Valley (canal farming), L.A. , as well as Lake Mead (down over 115' from max) is the only source of water for Vegas (fed from the Col.).

So anyplace may be 'on borrowed time!' But how many years to you & wife retire---maybe you can keep ahead of it?!!!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllll there Brother I am far away from retirement. Im only 32 creeping up on me in the next 10 Hours. I'll be 32 on the 15th and she's only 30.

Even if I was 65 I wouldnt retire. Its in my blood, I was raised as a Lumber hauler in Gassaway / Exchange, WV.

RETIRE? What the hell is that. I've got a trucking company to run, people to take care of and people that depend on our services. 10-4? I cant retire! I would DIE.

The economy is in bad shape, and the b*llsh*t lies that our government is feeding us about economic growth is flat out LIES.

I've been involved in the Trucking Industry since the 90s. And Many others can vouch on this one. The Industry has been on a downward roll for years now.

Im just seeking out information in the Industry that MAY help me keep her afloat until im able to breath. Let alone fight for survival.

We are Sllllllooooooowwwwwing down here. And I myself dont see a break until March of 2008 if you really wanna know the truth.

    All the best,
    Matt

Cant help you there, Matt, that you married 'down!' You shud have married 'up' to some older, wealthy lady so you could 'retire'---what I call 'retirement,' is: travel, hobbies, doing my own thing, maybe 'another' self-owned business--nah!!, but etc.

[But I was young and foolish once, too! Married to younger women with bills...not any possessions/i.e. NO Stuff of their own!.....ha ha]:biggrin_25525:

Lucky your not here in Michigan, out govenor has things real screwed up. Atleast with trucking, trucks will always be needed dispite the economy. Garbage would be a solid business, never seem to run short on it.

    Heard the SUNSHINE Hand!
Im also aware the the horse transportation business down south is also a prime market for trucking. The last time I even came close to hauling a horse she was my EX-WIFE (DOH) :biggrin_2559:

I have seen that Michigan is the state with the highest rated in unemployment. I feel for those up there. The Florida unemployment rates is lower than Ohio.

What Is America's Top State For Business?

[IMG] Virginia - 1327 pts (Highest Rank - #4 in Business Friendliness; Lowest Rank: #35 in Cost of Living)
[IMG] Texas - 1258 pts (Highest Rank - #1 in Economy; Lowest Rank: #31 in Education)
[IMG] Utah - 1231 pts (Highest Rank - #2 in Quality of Life; Lowest Rank: #45 in Education)
[IMG] Georgia - 1185 pts (Highest Rank - #2 in Workforce; Lowest Rank: #36 in Quality of Life)
[IMG] North Carolina - 1153 pts

Found that at CNBC. So we know the rating's and Scale are correct if not, close to. With that in mind Virginia's Economy must be going or holding steady at the moment.

I don't know how the Trucking business is down their but WE all know that's a MAJOR freight lane vein. 10-4?

    My 2 cents,
    Matthew

    PS,
Im all for heading SOUTH and baskin in the sunshine a while. Really thinking about talking to some business owners in the sunshine state. ( really ) :yes2557:

go to WI. I've never seen a state spend so much on road construction and still have perpetually horible roads. Of course it's VERY seasonal.

When I oved now there is tons of logging but it's not what it used to be, still allot though. whch of course means there is lots of chip hauling also. Waste is always going to be good in out society of overconsumption. I'm in it now and it's growing leaps and bounds. even two year after Katrina the cleanup work is still brisk, You wouldn't belive how many people still are not in there homes even two years later. plus there is no state income tax and drivers wages are low s if you are in a national freight market the low drivers wage can work in your favor.

I can only hope that you, and the majority of the country continue to believe those ratings. :D

At least I won't have to worry about the surge coming this way :D

My town is about as cheap as they come. The only downside is the lack of jobs, but if you own a trucking company..... there are alot of drivers here.:biggrin_25525:
We have some trucking companies already here..... The major one being Super Service.... the Home terminal is here.... but Gainey owns it.
There is also Tri-B..... much smaller than Super Service.
There are alot of smaller companies.....
But an Endless supply of Drivers.:biggrin_25525: Did I mention it's cheap to live here?:biggrin_2551:
