    What is this about? Are they losing trucks? And is Star out of Morton, IL or Nashville?

    Does not sound good at all. The only thing I could recommend to you is to fill your tanks to the brim every day if that is possible with your company, because it always seems like the second thing a company going into the crapper does is cut off your fuel cards. The first is that they quit answering the phone.
    Good luck to you on your new job. Sounds like just in the nick of time.

    Wishing we had more information. The largest new truck driveaway company cut 56(?) newly hired drivers back in August, ending a year long hiring spree that promised 'no layoffs'. Its being reported they still have way too many drivers for the amount of work available.

    I doubt it it's Nashville, TN since Covenant owns it.

    Well, if I don't lie or bad mouth, I don't think they would punish me for that. (Morton IL. btw) Here's what I do know;

    All drivers have received mailing about the company needing to save ever PENNY and they are going to be looking hard at the drivers.

    I receive almost daily messages on QuallCom about watching fuel mileage. They expect 6.25mpg, >35% idle time. One of the last ones I got stated that I had 7 days to achieve this goal or there would be an INTERVENTION. Others got the same canned message.

    A 13 year veteran of the company was released due to over idle time. (Was there other factors involved? dunno. Got info from a reliable source.)

    The local police have been hired to keep a squad car at the yard 24/7.

    This part is skuttlebutt/rumor/talk that is about for the reason for the police; The company has spent a huge amount of money on repairs for the CAT C-13 engine with the DPF Regen system. (That part is fact). Caterpillar has refused for what ever reason to reimburse Star for this Warranty work. So, Star stopped making lease payments on the affected units. Lease company sent repo men to take the trucks. Star got an injuction to stop this and hired the local police to enforce it.

    Ordinarily, Star is very understanding about late loads and rookie errors. As of late, they have been far less tolerent. Thier Facebook page has several drivers stating they have been let go for what used to be acceptable. It's been said that there is now a hiring freeze. Everyone that I've talked to has heard the same number, 200, of drivers that the company is getting rid of.

    I wish the company well for they have treated me OK. However, having just under a year with them, not wanting to wake up to a cold truck all winter, and not being a perfect driver I'm fairly certian I won't be able to attain the new fuel MPG standards that they want. Therefore, I have applied for and gotten another job. Working out my notice with Star now. They have done some major personel changes with the suits in the offices and cube city. I wish they would communicate with the drivers better. If I knew for sure more about what was going on, I might stay. I can't gamble with my paydays. So, with the best information I could gather, I made a decision to seek another company.

    This past Friday Star terminated thier training program. Trainees were taken out of trainer's trucks after being in them for in some cases 2 weeks or more. One trainee said that he had to find his own transportation back home. Merry Christmas.

    Just got a call from Star (Nashville, TN) said they hiring O/O and want me to come in day after Christmas. I do remember Caterpillar stopped putting engines in trucks because they couldn't pass the new emission rules. Until the 2012 model year. They even built their own dump trucks.

    They're two Star companies. One red lettering. Out of Morton Il
    the other blue lettering out of Nashville Tn. They are run as 2 separate companies but owned by same person who also owns Star leasing.
