Oooh very bad idea! Remember folks dry ice isn't ice... its a frozen form of liquid carbon dioxide (which can kill you when it turns to its gas form (sublimation) in an enclosed space).

I'll freely admit... I love California, and I love the people who live there- Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, or otherwise. I vacation there whenever possible and if I hadn't lucked into this contract hauling once a week into Cal., I never would have gotten back into trailer trucking.
Although this new law is part of the reason I'll no longer be trailer trucking into California, I'd be less than honest if I claimed this to be the sole reason. My contract expires at the end of February and I had already kinda made up my mind not to renew. Even though this job was a dream come true at this point in my life (it has been a "sabbatical" of sorts from my real life); considering the cost of the equipment, fuel, and insurance, it's been a barely break even proposition. What the hell- it's been fun for 24 months.
About the weather: It's the winter's cold I have a problem with- not the heat of summer. I can recall many a night from my younger day when the dessert heat forced me to sleep under the trailer on furniture pads because it was difficult to breath in the cab much less sleep without the air movement afforded by forward motion. This was before the days of air conditioning, back in my furniture moving days. (showing my age, huh?)
Another thing about the weather: I'm just now drinking my last glass of Jim Beam and I can't believe that I've got to get into the #*#* van and drive to the G#*#^ed liquor store in a G#^*ed snowstorm and get another bottle.

    HaHa!
    Ace in the hole...
My nineteen year old has volunteered to drive me; and his car is already warmed up too!
Nope, don't mess with tequila no more... bad experience 'bout 25 years ago. Don't drink gin anymore either- bad experience five years ago- never could get the stain outta the carpet in my wife's Grand Prix- finally had to sell the ###### thing...

California is leading the charge, as it always does. What I'm really saying is "today California, tomorrow the entire country".

You guys MUST realize the sun is setting on overnight idling. Mandatory teaming and railroads are the future in OTR trucking. It's all part of the master plan, boys.

    No idling today in California
    Hillary wins in 2008
Green wave sweeps (just like the dot com boom)
    Mandatory teaming laws passed
California limits the number of heavy trucks allowed in
    No idling laws passed nationwide
Truck drivers exposed as being full of hot air, as most don't quit as they treatened to do
    Railroad infrastructure upgrades complete
Freight begins to be shipped by rail
    Warren Buffet makes a killing
Sudden massive unemployment in trucking as drivers didn't heed the warnings
Someone comes to this site and says "I told you so"

Well, a lot of truckers grumble about time spent away from home, low pay compared to hours on the job, etc. Now, couple this change with the recently passed overtime law in Washington state... and trucking, as a lifestyle, may eventually become a thing of the past.

So, many of those who complain about the long hours and lack of overtime pay may find themselves working and getting paid for a traditional 40 hour workweek. Companies may decide that rail is, indeed, the way to go... and only bring truckers in for the last leg of the journey... which could in many cases eliminate the need for a driver to stay out past his 8 hour shift and hence, overnight.

It would take time to develop the logistics and freight transit time would be increased substantially, but do you drivers think this is a possibility?
