As a local driver I'm allowed one 16 hour day per week. And because I'm a local driver it means that sometimes I work in the warehouse, which doesn't have to abide by the 10 hour rule. I can work a 14 hour day driving, and then work in the warehouse 6 hours later for another 12 hour day doing manual labor. 10 hours later one can be expected to drive again. What were the lawmakers thinking?

The point is you won't be behind the wheel driving after 14 hours (although you do get the one day # 16 hours but only 11 driving) to risk killing someone on the road. That's the point of the 14 hour rule, If your an over the road driver you can work in the warehouse for 20 hours after driving 11 hours, however both driver local or otr must take a full 10 hour break before driving again

I just copied & typed in your profile picture from a photo program like paint & inserted the flipped R that I made from another saved picture - which was just the R. Something like that anyway. I was doodling.

Did they not get rid of the pre trip rule and are you required to show 15 mins for pre or post trip inspections.Seems that I cant find in any DOT book were you have to show 15 mins for either. Help set me straight for i`m lost and have fallen and can`t get up. KEEP ON TRUCKIN

DOT does not in the regulations book tell you how long to log anything, although what was told to me by DOT (the auditor himself and one that inspects your truck sometimes in Indiana) is anything you do that involves work will take you # least 15 minutes of line 4 time. Off subject there a little, but a tip for you
.
Now the pre-trip & post-trip is very differential with many companies. Some are finally getting it the right way (in my opinion only)
Below is the information regarding a post-trip: If you click on "Interpretation: you can also read the Q & A regarding post-trip. I require my drivers to log # least 15 minutes at the end of the day because the posttrip is the one which you must check all items and do it in writting. Notice you sign the post-trip report when you have completed your pre-trip.

the pre-trip inspection link is below again you can read the "interpretations" on the pre-trip as well.

The pre-trip is only a walk around to make sure nothing really went wrong while you was parked for your break and if repairs was done you would do another good post-trip inspection to assure everything was fixed and nothing else is wrong. I am very sticalur about thinking maybe the mechanic fried something else on my truck so I would check everything again.
Now again many companies require different ways of the line 4 time. What I understand is most DOT officers are getting with the program and saying you should be logging your post-trip on line 4, however you still have the others saying a pre-trip should be on line 4. But you can clearly read what a pre-trip is and it is not as detailed as the post-trip, do you agree? -
After you start your day you have 14 hours before you must STOP DRIVING. You can be on duty as long as you want after that but cannot drive after the 14th hour
