You would be considered to be an insurance liability to most companies right now. I know that the company that hubby & I drive for requires a driver to 'retrain' if they have been off the road for 1 year. Their retraining consists of a 'refresher' course and a couple of weeks on the road with a trainer. Good luck & I would hold off on the HazMat until you find a company to drive for.

what does a vote for obama have to do with it? not sure you gave the whole story, since you said it was a bad rap (what you did explain sounded to me like falsifying records, but certainly you couldve meant you did it unknowingly somehow). either way, mistake or lie, it is what it is, and we've all done things we are less than proud of. as far as driving, i would think you would need to find a company that would retrain you, or refresh you, and also a company that doesnt write off anyone with a record. they are out there, but mostly it means a large otr company. i wish you the best of luck. have you ever considered driving a cab for awhile? not sure how it pays where you are...here its certainly not great, but generally better than other nonskilled local work like fast food or walmart type places. cab companies will generally hire anyone that they dont think will steal their cab, or rob their customers. oh...as far as truck driving...cant hurt to check any local foodservice delivery facilities. ask 5 different fast food joints who delivers their product. that should yield at least 2 or 3 different company names to call, assuming they are within your acceptable distance. be advised...its not easy work. unload the truck yourself at many stops...out for 36 hours at a time, but usually within a couple hundred miles, and work 4 days outta 7 with good pay and benefits. at least thats how it is here. drivers here average over 60k per year.

One misdemeanor isn't going to prevent you from a good high paying driving job. The probation officer is the key right now. The local dept. of labor can pay for your CDL school through the WIA program. Even though you're an experienced driver, the rules have changed & you will require schooling now. Get your endorsements in the meantime. There have been drivers on this forum that their probation or parole officer were able to let them travel out of state with a trucking job.
