No, you were correct in the first thought. Mercer's "First-In, First-Out" seems to be the problem with a few other mercer guys I know as well. Two of them have been there since 2000 and they said it's getting worse and worse. From their own mouths, they said that "freight coordinators have their favorite drivers" and that they always get the better load offers. usually before they even head to an area. They both said they would get calls from a 'dispatcher" asking if they wanted a good paying load coming out of XX in a week, and they would position them to get the load. they felt it was unfair to others and not how the system is supposed to work..... I have NO first hand knowledge, just telling what I've heard, but it makes sense to me. As much as you Mercer guys call them 'freight coordinators" in reality all they are is a dispatcher and nothing more. I prefer to book my own loads and run my own business. i don't need anyone controlling any aspect of what I make or where I go. Sure, at LS we have to hurry and call on certin loads and sometimes you just don;t get the load or call in time, but that's how it works in the real world. I don;t haul many loads off the boards till i get into a bad area, like odessa since that's where I'm going to after X-Mas with these compressors. I have 5 agents that move freight in that area looking for me and they have my number if something comes up. Since I will be backing up on a Holiday weekend and also the end of they yhear, i don;t think i will have any problems finding something to run. Shippers always want to get stuff out just before a holiday and especially before the end of the year for tax reasons on inventory.
Don't get me wrong, i think Mercer is a descent company, but it's not a "independant" operation as all the guys say it is. I know a few guys like Skateboardman does very well there, so he might be one guy you want to talk to and get some tips from, as he seems to know how to work their system to it's best advantages.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
thats funny because its not at all what i said. i am plenty good at putting my own foot in my mouth without you putting it there for me.
SHC Thanks this. -
next time I take a "load" because I'm bored, I am going to hire someone to shoot me. 8 hours 6 times breaking the trailer apart and building wooden "ramps" to load rollers, even for the $50/mile wasn't worth it. I am beat down and headed for an icy hotbath and bed.
