So I've spent the past hour and a half looking through my green book and I can't find any statute regarding wear on a lunette ring. I can find plenty about the way a 5th wheel must be mounted but nothing on how far a lunette ring can be worn down before it must be replaced.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the statute please? I've got a boss who doesn't like replacing things a moment sooner than he has to and I'd like to be able to show him the statute.

    Thanks in advance.

not sure what a lunette ring is. but i can tell you if your 5th wheel makes a clunk when you take off and cant adjust it any more it needs to be replaced. always hated 5th wheels to #### greasy.

A lunette ring is the ring on the front of a trailer you'd hook up to a pintle hook.

    CVSA established the OOS criteria.

    d. Drawbar Eye
    Mounting and Integrity
    (1) Any cracks in attachment welds or drawbar eye. (Trailer - 393.70(c) or
    Driveaway - 393.71(h))
    (2) Any missing or ineffective fasteners. (Trailer - 393.70(c) or Driveaway -
    393.71(h))
    (3) Any welded repairs to the drawbar eye. (Trailer - 393.70(c) or Driveaway -
    393.71(h))

    4) Section reduction visible when coupled. (Trailer - 393.70(c) or Driveaway
    - 393.71(h))
NOTE: No part of the eye should have any section reduced by more than
20 percent. If wear can be seen when the hook and eye are coupled, it is
possible that either this condition or section reduction in the pintle hook
    exists.
