Its all about CLEANING! I don't smoke but I've had to clean quite a few trucks in my day that were not kept clean by a smoker. I'm not trying to bust on smokers, most of my friends smoke and their trucks are kept very clean and you can't smell anything when you get in unless they are smoking at that moment. Its all about CLEANING! As for the drivers that are busting on the smokers, mind your own business and stop trying to tell everyone how to live their lives. If the truck that you get stinks, clean it or ask for another one and get over yourself. :biggrin_25513:

Bingo, a little formula 409 and some towels go a long way. I hate a dirty truck and am wiping it down every other day. I have had guys from our shop suprised when they seen me smoking because they could not smell it in the truck. This is due to opening the window while smoking, emptying the ash tray daily, keeping the interior clean constantly etc. I used to detail cars in highschool and used to hate cleaning a car were the driver smoked like a chimney and never even cracked a window.

But now there will be no more keeping my cig up by the window so the smoke can go out. Can't be letting LEO see that cigarette so I will be holding it low which means more smoke staying in the cab of the truck.

One more thing I'll ad to this thread, I believe the police have a lot more to worry about than some idiots that want them to use their resources to bust drivers for smoking. It seems to be that its easier to get away with dealing dope than it is to drive a truck and have a cigarette. Unfreakin'believable!

its sad that we are so short sighted

its not about smoking, nor seatbelts, nor even drunk driving or Amber Alerts

its about getting the population to give up its rights in the name of safety, health or terrorism

and once we become conditioned, then they can do as they please

so you supporting cops busting smokers for smoking is the same as you supporting cops for busting you for any other infringement-law of your rights in the future

they started with seatbelts, and only God knows where they will end

I remember years ago I was taken out of my truck, it was given to a team, and I was assigned another one with a smaller bunk. No problem I thought because I only ran the northeast at that time. Well, when I opened the door that smell hit me. Not stale smoke but "butt crack". That was the nastiest smell ever. Apparently the driver that was in it was given a new truck because he was at the company longer. He didn't like to take showers or wash his clothes but once a month. I'll take a truck that has a cigarette smell any day over that. I know I could get rid of the smell, but I cleaned the other truck for 2 days, steaming the carpets, seats and upholstery and cleaning everything in sight, plus replacing the "black colored" mattress and still couldn't get the "butt crack" smell out. They wouldn't give me another truck so I left and never returned. The moral of this story boys and girls? Clean up after yourself and wash your ##### now and then!! :biggrin_2556:

At one time, In North Dakota, we all had a choice as to if we wanted to be in a smoking environment or not. Yeap you could actually go to a place were NO smoking was allowed or you could go to a place were it was allowed. Now we don't have any choice unless we want to stand out in the middle of the street to have a smoke. No one forced anyone to go someplace were smoking was allowed. There are many jobs and places for employees to work were smoking was not allowed. They had their choices and their freedoms and we had our freedoms to go or be or work were smoking was allowed. Smokers have no rights in this state I guess.

Thanks for the info Rat. Apparently my company is not enforcing this either, this is the first I have heard that the law includes commercial trucks. They did say that being able to smoke in our trucks is a courtesy. Heck, I had no idea the HP could ticket me, I have been smoking away in full view. I am curious, does this include all the other company vehicles and equipment that is shared as well ?
