I dont agre with a credit check. Bad things happen to way too many god people these days. Having been there in my life I know it first hand and I hate to see anyone judged by that.

Like I said, you have to be very careful with that one and judge it NOT just by the numbers. But have you ever not paid your rent? Your utilities? Probably not. Sure, we've all gotten in trouble with credit cards but most of us have always managed to pay the "necessary" bills no matter what.

But I can see your point. Maybe a better question would be, where has he lived in the past 5 years? Just to see how stable he is - that's what I'm getting at. That he's not a drifter or a user but someone steady.

Do you know what I mean? It's hard to explain...

I currently work as a Personal Banker and I would highly advise you to pull a credit bureau (again, with their permission) to see what their situation is like. There is a lot that you can learn from those pieces of paper that you will never be able to find out on your own. If someone is currently in a bad spot, you will be able to tell that. It's one thing to be late on bills. It's another to have a handful of collection accounts for bad checks. Plus if there are a lot of inquiries on that persons credit, it can usually mean they are desparate for credit and need a way out. I only say this because that person may take drastic measures (sell your fuel, pawn off a tire) to make ends meet. Clearly you shouldn't judge someone just on the score itself, but take a look at what credit obligations they have and weigh how responsible they have been with those and translate that into how responsible they will be with your equipment, etc. Nine times out of ten the people that are late many times on credit cards or other loans are not going to be responsible for their equipment. We have seen many people that have poor credit not take care of their own car which they have a loan for and then destroy the car. Just a thought. You want to be fair and not judge people, but on the same hand, you have a business and a bottom line to watch out for. This is only one more tool available to help you out.

Have a credit report pulled on the driver? OH jesus.. Are you a BROKER?
We all ready can tell from apperence, (SMELL), what he or she drives, and from the interview how their personality is. We can RUN a 10 Year background check on the drivers and also check his DAC record too ....

After all that if we really like the man or woman ROAD test them.

    A credit REPORT?
    WFT...........

It's business people like that, who have no GD business in this Industry. Reasons like this is why the business is headed to hell in a hand basket.

Too many time's we have all seen people go in over their heads in debt. Not being able to pay for the CCs, or even home loans, or cars, ect....
They WORK from day light till DARK, and STILL are in the hole.

OK, SO you pull up a CREDIT REPORT on a ( 20 YEAR SR DRIVER ) No accidents, was ONCE and O/O who has given up being on his own. And NOW he's in debt and wanting to driver your TRUCK.

You RUN his REPORT and it reflect's that of one who LOST everything and filed chapter 11, and his Family is starving. But he comes to you and wants to drive.

Has a good list of company references, knows alot of business people, has a Great personality and can drive the truck like DALE JR.

Any company that wouldn't hire this man because of his CREDIT score SUCKS. I myself wouldn't even want to do business with a company that is like this. That whole credit report, background check stuff pisses me off.

There has been alot of GOOD American people LOOSE their ##### because BANKS and LENDERS sett hem up to FALL straight out of the GATE!

OMG - I have to stop here... The more I talk about this that madder I get.

Be fair and not judge?? And just how is everything you just said being fair and not judging?
I've been there, heck I'm still there. $60k in credit cars, yes the mortgage has been late by months many times. Even had forclosure threatened once. Untilities have been shut off. At one time every credit card Ihad (and it was allot) was up at 25% and up with payments over $1000 a month with penalties and fees. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE including debt specialists, my bank, attornies etc looked at my budget and said there was no way I could make it and I needed to declare Bankruptcy. And this was just months before our illustrious president was to make it impossible for me to declare it but I said no, it's my debt, I spent the money and I'll pay it back. I have spent the last three years paying that back, we've gone weeks with nothing more than beans and rice to eat and bought absolutely nothing. You try to make the clothes and shoes etc you own last three years and see what happens. I sold my house and moved across the country to a cheaper place, I sold my cars, my shop equipment and basicly everything I owned but in three years I went from a credit score in the 360 range (lowest 1% of the country) back to where I was able to get a decent mortgage. Now I'm getting behind again so my credit is going down again.
I tried to get a job at ABF to better my position somewhere along the line but they did just as you said and wouldn't talk to me even though I have been in this industry my entire life and have and spectacular track record.
Now I haven't stolen anything since I was about 6 years old and stole some candy. I'm honest to a fault and every past employer I have ever had says I am one of the best if not the best driver they have ever had. So I feel abf lost as much as I did because of this policy.
SO I guess I don't have to tell you what I think of you or your ideas

You know what in all reality.... I just simply boils down to this.

If you like the driver and YOUre personalities (CLICK), everything else is done, and done correctly. From his DAC lookin good, Reference history all there and WORK history, ect... The ROAD TEST ect...

If all that's GOOD, and You've got a GOOD feeling about that person I wouldnt see why one would let hit ( CREDIT REPORT ) hold him BACK FROM FEEDING HIS FAMILY!

DON'T DO THAT!!!!!!!! Your no better YOURSELF!

Thats why their are so many driver out there right now with bad attitudes and mad at the world. They have gotten #### on by a company or cant get a decent JOB with benefits because he never had a silver spoon wedged in his butt from birth. He's had to fight for everything he's got and going to get and Its not right for anyone ( banks ) ect, to hold one back from finding decent work.

THE CREDIT REPORT, on a Seasoned SR driver means ( CRAP ).

If he's a FAMILY man in NEED and can drive your truck without fail and without YOU worrying yourself to death, HIRE THE MAN.... He will be greatful and you'll be thankful you found a GOOD'OL boy who you can RELY on.
    :biggrin_25516:Matt

    PS,
I really dough he's going to STEAL your FUEL. He's probly just needing to FEED his family so bad he's willing to run his ### off for you for 4-6 weeks at a time. Besides that A credit report DOES NOT show the HOURS of dedication this MAN gave to our Industry now does it?

It's simply another tool to find the right person. The question was asked how you would pick from three equally qualified people. A credit report could be a tool to do so.

Furthermore, I never said to use a credit report to disqualify someone with years of experience. There are different circumstances for everyone. You can't look at a credit report and make a complete decision about someone, but I know for a fact that it helps determine what type of situation someone is in and let's you decide what questions you need to ask someone.

Finally, the person that said banks and lenders set people up to fail is full of crap. Why would I give a loan to someone knowing they are going to fail? Not only does that hurt the customer, but it screws me over as well. I take chances on people everyday determining if they will pay me back or not. I can't rely on if I feel like the person is a "good guy."

You guys are right about bad things happening to good people. I see it everyday as well, and furthermore witnessed it first hand growing up watching my parents struggle their whole life. You talk about me judging people; well look in the mirror.

All in all, again, it's a tool, that's all it is. There's a reason the big companies are using it. Clearly they have done something right to make it to where they are, maybe you should consider that.
