Your off duty..........off duty is off duty. So you got a insp while riding around off duty. Flag it at the time it happen and state so in the comments.

Years ago, when I was the person in the office for the Dot problems at a company, all inspections had to have the log sheet attached matching it. We then had to forward them.

When we get inspections now, we have to send a copy of the log sheet with the inspection into the office ASAP. Never asked if they still send them in.

    mje Thanks this.

Mine went to the DOT at the time. I do not know for sure what they do now. I imagine, they keep them in their safety area in case of audit. First thing they ask for.

    mje Thanks this.

i beleive flagging inspections OFF duty would be falsifieng logs. as inspections aren't typically done unless your driving on the road. and generally aren't done without a trailer either. as the officer would assume that your off duty anyways. why would he inspect you. you've got no trailer, no load, and no bills, so what's there to inspect????

an inspection generally consists of license, insurance, and bills. and logs.

    mje and EZX1100 Thank this.

I never knew of anyone forwarding the DOT insp and log back to the state agency that gave the insp just only the insp itself. We make a copy of every DOT insp and place it with the drivers log in the file. Once 6 months has pasted the logs are thrown away but the insp form stays in the drivers file for as long as the driver is employed.

    mje Thanks this.

We were facing a shutdown and they wanted them sent direct to them for a year.

I know they take the copies now and have them in case of the annual audit and whatever. I have not even asked. Maybe I will after the first of the year.

mje and West coast trucker Thank this.

Look genius your off duty.............bobtailing to wal-mart in a CMV. At any given time while on the highway you can be pulled over for a insp. A DOT officer can not put you to work, ie on-duty not driving because you are getting a insp while your off duty.
Flag it and move on...............nothing else to see here.

    j3411 and mje Thank this.
