I currently have a 04 379 pete with a cat and in the new year i'm looking to order a new one. Love my pete and will keep for a spare as i haul milk (7 days a week 365) but now there is not many motor choices and leaning towards a star for the Detroit.. Paccar i here they are very sensitive on the throttle and not a big cummins fan but have not drove the new ones.. Any ideas?? Thanks Mike

Why not consider a Peterbilt glider kit with a Detroit? I hear the new DD15's are very reliable and superior to Paccar and Cummins. The International engines are just not even worth mentioning.

How about a glider kit Pete 389 with the Detroit 12.7liter. If you do not do cali, then you will be fine. I would avoid the CAT day cab with international junk engine. No offense, but they are maintenance hogs which is International is going back to cummins. Now, you can get a Star glider kit with a 12.7 liter detroit. Another option is the KW glider kit with your 2004 era engine providing it meets 2004 emissions as that is one of the requiremnts. My rec is to go for a glider kit with a super relaible and dependable 12.7 liter detroit and a 18spd tranny.

well if you are ordering one call or look into pittsburgh power they build custom petes big power great options ie drive tag and great MPG.....otherwise i would say stay with what you got and just rebuild it when it needs it. nothing but head aches with new truck motor...weather detroit which i like the old 12.7, cummins, cat which you can order a new cat motor still but you really pay for it....lol they all have issues with the emmsion added to them....but really i would look at pittsburgh power if you want something with great power and great mpg.....google them and check out some things they have done they have a video of a new pete they did for a guy. when they started it the radio ant didnt even move or vib while idling........

If you want to actually be able to pull a hill cummins is the only choice as far as new motors go i drive a isx 550 only problem I had was the egr valve clogged and cooler started leaking just do a egr delete and the will solve that problem trust me stay away from the other choices as you will be disappointed especially maxxforce!!

What is going to be great is having to get a cummins in that cat! If getting a 15 liter engine, international is stopping production of the max force 15. So that new cat will have a isx under the hood!

No it will not, cat will not even use a cummins brand turbo, you really think they would use an ISX. Their industrial C15 is within a couple of points of being able to meet the on road emmissions and with some minor tweaking they could meet them, I would venture a guess that it won't even make it that far, the trucks will continue to use the CT series engines.

If they were that close , why pull out of the market ? After what many went through and some still are with the 08 and later engines, cat may have to give some free to get them out and build a reputation back. We were got rid of our 40 08s that had cats. Would not be the first time a vendor has given stuff for real world testing/PR!
