at the house I gotta leave christmas day for bedford nh...

speaking from someone who was a local driver for all their time driving, then when i started doing regional work Ive done all new england, chicago and south but this was the farthest west ive went going to ardmore OK this past week and I'll say that driving out through there is the easiest driving ive ever done, nice high speed limits, less traffic, people were more courteous giving you the lights to move over at night and it was just a much more pleasant driving experience! If I could have a job running pittsburgh to dallas and back every week i would be one happy camper!

Pretty much every trucker I have ever met would agree with you. That is why rates usually stink heading that way.

That would be why the company I work for runs alot of new england...they usually broker out most of our stuff going out west and far south.

Leaving Iowa, I feel that we can get premium rates to New England. Then we just need to move the truck toward Buffalo, NE Ohio or Baltimore to get a reasonable rate. Going South, you don't get the premium rate on the way out, and there is not much between TX & Iowa to make up for it.

    Logan76 and SHC Thank this.

You guy's don't move very much open deck stuff to NE do you? I know i've seen your van drivers up there a few times now as well..

I also have came to the conclusion that there is no reason for me to run flatbed where I work, Van pays the same and is way less work...I was spoiled last week I ran 3650 miles all slamming doors, one to NC and back and then ardmore ok and reload out of muskogee for home, maybe 300 empty miles for my whole week...

I kinda like bumping a dock and laying down for a nap instead of rolling up frozen lumber tarps... ;)

We go to NY a lot (3-4 trips per week). The Northeast tends to go in streaks. Normally, 3-4 times per month. We don't mind going up there, but only when the money is right. The return loads have always been poor up there, so you have to make sure you make some money on the way out.

    SHC and Logan76 Thank this.

I would say 85% of the time we bounce back from new England, we may send 5 trucks up there on a sunday for a monday drop and maybe 1 man will get a reload and that is based upon his seniority not his location, so even if im 5 miles away and hes 150 miles away hes going to get the reload.

We send a bunch of our trucks up there, we always haul the same thing: trim board (its like fiberboard they are using for trim in all these new houses, its like whats around alot of newer doors for the frame)

I used to run that route from Chicago to texarkana and back every week. If I didn't kow the 2 ways around that construction on I-40, I would have been in a mess of trouble. I'm really suprised they have not finished it up yet, as they started it in the fall of 2011. And thanks for the heads up as i will be traveling that exact same way on Wednesday morning from home.
