    Well the Midland is rated for 7 watts. Most are 4 watts. Unless they are linear and using amps. The Midlane is not limited to the rubber antenna. You can connect a magnetic antenna or even a pernament one.

    If your worry about handheld's than get a toolbox or tackle box. Cut a hole for mounting. Route the necessary cables external for easy use.
    The Midland give you a battery pack that is the bottom half. Remove the battery pack and swap the base for the one that has a cigarette lighter plug & full antenna connection. You can also remove the rubber antenna or leave it on.
