aside from debating liberal and conservative nonsense, its about us learn and sharing what we know about trucks
so even if you thought something yesterday and you learned something new today, that makes today a plus
compared to pigheaded people who go thru life no more smarter than they were in 5th grade

See it as flip/flop all you want; that just tells me that you're one of those people that never lets new understanding of the facts get in the way of your own opinion. And you will never see me telling anyone that they can't express their own views.
And I don't recall saying that someone would never be inspected while bobtailing, you may be confusing me with someone else. I can't even think of a reason that I may have said that, but anything's possible.mje Thanks this. -
I do listen to others opinions and views but I also do my own research and don't take trucker talk as the gospel.
I was just humored by some of the posters in this thread that just 4 weeks ago tore me up because "they'd never get Inspected while bobtailing".
Would your view of it being ok that you were inspected be the same if the inspector citied you for something?mje Thanks this. -
I don't see why not, since in most states any vehicle on a public roadway is fair game for a safety inspection at any time. The only time I'd have an issue with a violation is if it were something fictitious, or a violation that was caused by the inspector.mje Thanks this.

Bobtailing to wally world can be off-duty whether your trailer atTA is loaded or not.
All time during a DOT inspection in on-duty.
Your log had better match the times on the inspection, or the next inspector could cite you for false log. -
So, he can force me to go on duty for the inspection? Seems odd that he has the capability to disrupt my 10 hour or 34 hour break on a whim and without my consent. Wouldn't something like that be covered under the 'incidental contact' theory?mje Thanks this.

The thing is, when driving a CMV, there is no "probable cause" requirement to inspect you. Meaning, the LEOs can pull you over and check out your truck and logbook anytime they want. Now, there's alot of debate on whether that includes getting INSIDE the truck or not. But as for standard inspections, they can do it pretty much any time they wish. I've seen LEOs on PRIVATE property doing random inspections, though the only times have been at the Pilot on 20 in LA right next to the Texas border. ######## would sit right in front of the fuel islands too. Maybe they were just after guys who skipped the scales, but I've seen it there on 3 occasions. From everything I've heard police aren't supposed to be able to enter private property like that unless they are called or spot a crime, but who knows these days.

Anyway, it is a PITA, and yes it disrupts your break. Some officers might let you go without actually writing up an inspection form so that it doesn't disrupt your break, others could care less. If an inspection results though you must show the ENTIRE time on your log book since the only time you can just flag something is if it takes less then 8 minutes to complete (of course, that doesn't count for e-logs.) Even if you just flag it, I'm not sure if that wouldn't count for disrupting your 10 anyway.mje Thanks this. -
