According to the flyer I have, you're exempt for certain reasons, and it's only supposed to apply within 100 ft of a home/residential area or school.

California allows idling for the 10 hour break today through end of the year. The problem begins on January 1, 2008. That is the date of the no idling law. -
If folks in California would stop using so much electricity and natural gas to heat their homes, it would also reduce emissions and help curtail our dependence on foreign oil, as well as the "healthful" benefits.
Although, I have to question for WHOM is it "beneficial"?
I wonder why the good citizens of the Golden State don't voluntarily turn off the air conditioners and heaters in THEIR homes as a healthful, conservation effort?

Thanks for clearing that up for me... I kept wondering why so many people complained about it when I looked and saw all the exemptions.
-
i think, and this is from what i remember when this brouhaha first began some 15yrs ago in nyc
people were tired of seeing trucks and buses idle with no drivers in them, so they pushed these anti idling laws, which made sense, but it was in a rush, as is most of these knee-jerk types of laws
unfortunately, after the laws were passed, someone realized that OTR drivers would be affected and no one has yet to exempt them, so they are included and fined
that is purely what i think happened, though i may be wrong -
People who sign these laws into effect, I often wonder do they fully relize what they are siigning? Or for that matter what forthought and common sense and what education or degree they have.
The public preseves that men drive trucks but women also! Teams of men and women, children like to take trips with there parents whan out of school. And even for a short time women that are expecting.
It's bad enough that professional drivers have to put up with an over regulated DOT rules and regulations. Now we have to contend to every crack-pot enviormentlest who wants their 15 mins. of fame and getting their name in the paper.
I like to say to them take your child for a ride in a snow storm with the windows rolled down. They would say it's dangerious for their health and the child. What are we? A sub-standred human beings ?
-
You are pretty much considered scum.... Only scums drive trucks don't you know that????
Animals get more rights to living comforts then truck drivers.... They could care less about you and it being 120+ inside your truck... you leave a pet inside a car like that and you will go to jail.....
Two things here...
1. revenue
2. people who sign the bills as such are people who think they are doing something good... Try putting them in such conditions then make them sign live like that...
I have one... how about cutting off all air conditioning to goverment buildings, and they will not be allowed to turn the heat on unless its below 25 degrees... Because that's our tax money just going to waste and could be used for other things.... We all know that would never happen becuase they can do whatever they want becuase they are special.... -
Are WE "sub-standard" human beings?
Hmmmmmmmm
Depends where on the Ivory Tower one is standing.
Ya reckon.

If you´re dumb enough not to equip your truck with a coolant heater, YES.
Idling is just plain stupid to keep your cabin warm, DO YOUR MATH!
And yes diesel exhaust is a cancer issue by up to 25% risk for the driver...
*You can have your comfort staying legal while saving A LOT of cash. -
Hey Mickey, I agree that it has been proven idling wastes fuel and one of the many APU's make sense. What about us company drivers? If I wanted to spend $8,000 of my money I would have just bought my own truck! My co. tried some APU'S, then CA changed the rules on them! How often can anyone buy 3,000 units at the above prices? Idle- air isn't everywhere, and again, why should I pay if i'm a COMPANY driver? I know, the flippant answer is "go to another co.". But I am also new to the industry and don't feel like looking like a "job jumper". I like my co. so far, they have done everything they said they would. I don't blame them for not jumping out and buying truckloads of APU's when CA might just change the laws again! I have e-mailed the CA dot about the supposed "pet exemption", no response. If they want to enforce these laws shouldn't they at least help get the REAL info out to those it affects?
