He is right! You definitely will want a fridge. It will pay for itself in the long run

I found a Coleman for $88. in a Walmarts, the truckstops are now up to $119. in their prices for them. Igloo is another great cooler to get, but they can be hard to find, Petros usually are the only places out here on the road where you might see one.

I have a 64qt Igloo 12-volt cooler in a '05 T-600 with 4 batteries, leaving it on overnite isn't a problem but all weekend is.I got mine at walmart for 79.99 2-1/2 yrs ago,no problems so far.Just remember its a COOLER not a refridgerator,it lowers ambient air temp 35-40 degrees.(if its 100 inside your truck its 60 inside your cooler)With that being said if you blow an A/C vent into the intake of the cooler, you'll make ice water in Tx. in Aug.

I'm wondering how much power does it take to power a small fridge like the one WRIGHTRACING has pictured? I have a 400w power invertor that plugs into the lighter outlets. The invertor has 2 wall plug outlets. Will this be big enough to power a small fridge? Thanks in advance! Merry Christmas!!

small fridges usually take around 150 watts or so, while they're running. your 400 watt inverter should have plenty of juice to power a small fridge, but you said it plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet. those plugs are usually wired into a 10 amp fuse, which means at 12 volt X 10 amps, you're limited to about 120 watts before you start blowing fuses (although 150 isn't THAT much over, so it might run for a short period of time without blowing, but in the long run probably not a good idea). these 300 or 400 watt inverters that plug into cigarette lighters are really overkill, because the outlet you plug them into doesnt supply enough power to get your full potential. if it were wired directly to your batteries it would be perfect.

The fridge I posted above takes a bit more than 150 watts to run it. It's an actual fridge, nut just air cooled, but freon and compressor, with a freezer. It was my old co-drivers, and he has one of those cig-lighter 400-watt inverters that couldn't run it either. Best thing to do is buy a 1500-watt inverter so it'll power a microwave as well.

Thanks for the info! So we went out and spent some money on a new fridge. We bought a Midea model MRD310 this what it looks like. According to the owners manual it's 115v 15 amp. We're going to put it in the truck in a few minutes. It's 33"h 19"L 19" Deep. I'll have to see how it works or if it will work with the 400w invertor. The company I work for at this time except for certain circumstances will not let us hard wire a invertor in the truck and any invertors we use need to be low wattage. I guess they have had to many problems with shorting batteries and burning trucks? We bought this at H H Gregg for $169 with a 1 year warranty. The size was right to fit in our freight shaker and we like the seperate freezer box. Now I can have Ice Cream on the road without having to buy Dairy Queen! :biggrin_255: I'll post back here and let everyone now how it works and if I have any problems with the invertor. Thanks again for the information! I hope everyone has a safe, happy holiday!

They should at least install one for you. That 400W inverter will not run that fridge. It may come on and work for a bit, but it will blow fuses left and right, then ruin your food and ice cream.
