Usually a local Attorney is the way to go. They know the DA and the judges.
If you have not paid Road Law i would find a local Attorney to handle it.
Believe me....I have had 3 speeding tickets in the last year and all of them were dismissed.....:biggrin_25525:

Glad you got the court straightened out anyway!

I took a little amount of time and effort and got my 15mph over the limit ticket dismissed on my own without a lawyer. Can be done if someone really wants to.

I hope you get this ticket dismissed so that it can be done and over with. Keep us updated on outcome.

well the lawyer had the pre trial conference today. didn't go as well as we had hoped. I guess the prosecuting attorney was pretty hard headed. they only thing they really offered. I cant remember exactly what it was called but basicly if i plead no contest to the charges they would wave the points. but i would still have the violation of 70 in a 55. however as my lawyer explained to me it does not really help my situation as my problem is not with the points. its not like the points are going to suspend my license the issue is the 15mph over the limit. He said that the prosecuting attorney just did not seem to understand what he was trying to get at with being a cdl holder and 15mph over the limit. we go to court on Thursday. They seem confident that we can get at least a 1mph reduction in speed in court.

I got a 17 over the limit ticket once in my '03 Cobra Terminator (as in job or license terminator).

I meet with the officer right before court started (I advise you talk to him sooner). I explained to him I regretted the excessive speed and how a "serious violation" would get me fired and basically kicked out of trucking. He approached the bench before the judge opened court and we agreed to a reduced charge. The judge reduced to a non moving violation of defective equipment.

This may work for you in a small town if you were and are polite and professional to the officer and court.

I also sold my beloved Mustang Cobra and bought a much slower F-150. Haven't had a ticket in 7 years.

The speed limit change is in affect AT the sign. Too many people think they can wait until after the sign to start slowing. But if they see a limit increase ahead, they think they can speed up BEFORE the sign. Now...is this fair? No! It's a cheater's mind that would think this is fair. Stop cutting corners, looking for short cuts, and do the right thing in all your actions.

And if you were speeding, tell the officer, Heck yeah i was speeding and i knew it. I've got places to be and women to...!

Get a local attorney to handle it for you... most likely it will cost you $100 to $200 bucks to him.. not so much different than taking Defensive Driving and paying a fine. Its worth it. Once the atty explains you have a CDL ... and that the zone just changed.. and that you need to keep your record clear for work you should be good to go..

I used to try and get my own deals with the court clerk.. and that can work sometimes.. but an Atty that will handle it inexpensively is the best bet and your record should stay clear after all is said and done.

well its all over and done with. there was 0 leniency from the court. wich is probably why none of the local lawyers wanted to take the case they probably knew how it would end from the start. as per the cops testimony i was only about 1/2 mile from the speed zone change there was no other traffic around the roads were dry and in good condition. basically in the end the judge said the purpose was to determine weather or not i was speeding and found that i was in fact speeding and the court ruled guilty of 70 in a 55. So dont get a speeding ticket in Williams county nd. because there court has a 0 leniency on traffic violations. this is even with someone who has not gotten a speeding ticket in 7 years.

Get a new attorney and request a new trial based on ineffective counsel. New counsel should also petition for a change of venue, as you may find that there is a pattern of hostility towards oil field workers and leniency towards locals.

That is, if you want to go that far.

oh there was defiantly hostility towards, not only oil field workers but truck drivers as well. you run into that a lot in the oil feilds.

as far as requesting a new trial its over its done with I'm not going to fight it anymore, I still have my job. when i leave this job its going to be to start driving my own truck full time. Is it going to cost me in the long run sure it is. its going to cost me in insurance premiums. The ticket will will follow me for the next 3-5 years. however it was my mistake even though it was a honest mistake but i did it. i did try to lessen its impact and failed. If i loose a opportunity in the future because of it ill have to kick myself in the ### and call myself a stupid sob and try to pay a little closer attention in the future.
