Nothing much you can do about snow/ice on the windshield wipers or grill. Those vibrating attachments for the wipers sound like a great idea though. I usually flick them on high for a few to try to shake it loose, but eventually you just have to get out and snap em a bit. One thing I'm not sure I've seen mentioned is not setting your trailer brakes when you park for a while. At least, if you are on flat ground. Trying to get those puppies loose can be a major PITA, especially if there's still a fair amount of snow on the ground. And don't get me started on trying to slide frozen tandems in the snow... geesh.
Winter weather advice from veteran drivers please!

if u drive a lot in bad winter areas put on a set of winter blades it really cuts don on the ice build up. keep your summer blades for a spare . ice has a habit of breaking or causing blades to fall off

Why would u need to run a jake on ice? I can guarentee you will do one time and when u feel your tractor go sideways and your shorts are glued to an area that rhymes with MASS u wont do it again. Be safe out there and happy holidays,to all RW

I once had a ball of ice build up under my wiper blade and couldn't see a thing. At the time conditions were such that I could not pullover anywhere. I took out my back scratcher and every time the wiper blades swung toward the left I would reach out the window and poke them with the back scratcher. After about 5-6 swipes and pokes I knocked the ice ball off and could see again!

Funny you say that and thanks everyone for the advice! I ran I-80 in PA yesterday 12/26 and conditions were white out and I couldn't see anything because my wipers iced up and there was no shot at pulling over anywhere! Everything was white and getting deep! I had stopped once to clear them earlier but then blizzard like conditions set in and the snow was blowing right at me hard, I was scared to death and had nobody to follow in front of me. I made it to Sapp Bros in clearview thank god and shut it down! Safe and sound in Gary IN tonight thanks to following all your advice and NO jake!chompi Thanks this.

Keep your windshield cold, a great tip given to me by an old driver.

CDLschoolgrad, sounds as if you are getting thrown right into it! Gotta love it! Yes often when you are driving in a winter storm it can be really difficult to pullover! Everything is covered in ice and snow and has yet to be plowed and on/off ramps are a mess (and usually blocked by others who have tried), rest stops are jammed full of stuck vehicles, truck stops are overflowing into the streets, it can be a real challenge sometimes finding a good place, or any place to park it! Its always best to pullover the very minute you think the weather maybe bad. This way you can check the weather and road conditions up ahead and decide whether you should push on or not. If not then you have already secured yourself a safe place to shut down and you can now kick back and watch the others fight for a spot! Gotta love it!
