Seen boats hooked to RV trailers doing this. I agree, it's not right.

Same with Class A RV's. Complete with air brakes and the whole 9 yards. Yet no special requirements. It's a straight truck really for all purposes.

 

My brother in law got put OOS in MN using his truck to pull a trailer with washers and dryers on it.

 

Interpretation from the FMCSA would end the question on how a driver would have to log it but until then common sense should prevail.

I spent Christmas in New Caney, TX and watched 3 sets of vans and small cars pulling 2 more behind them. The turn signals did not even match the full length down. I refer to them as Mexican car haulers.

I saw a pickup loaded to the gills, pulling another pickup loaded to the gills all headed south toward Houston.

I see this every time in Texas and NOTHING is ever done. The drive right by the scales, DOT officers and police.

These are mexican nationals. They go to car auctions and flea markets and buy up CRAP. Load it to the gills and head for the border. They sell it down south and make way more than they pay for it up here.
I asked a Laredo LEO about why they don't stop some of the blatantly overloaded vehicles.
His reply was, "I write them a ticket and they go back across the border, Who's going after them after the court date. Why waste my time". As to safety violations, they just abandon the crap and the state has to haul it off.

 

Like this at least the have lights on the last one.

 

Generally double towing is legal in most states. It is not legal in OR, WA, AL, and almost all east coast states (Maryland allows it). Its a state issue and State laws are subject to change.
