Hi guys. I'm new to this board and hate my first post to be a gripe, but there it is. My company (Air Products) has recently (beginning Jan 1) decided we should all be wearing the high visibility vest at all times. Get that last part? "AT ALL TIMES". That includes while driving! Personally, I've never heard of a more ridiculous idea.
So, I'm wondering if anyone else out there is currently doing this. It just seems to me that it could actually pose a safety hazard. On bright days the reflection on the windshield could obstruct your view and even have a camouflaging effect on bright yellow objects. At night the reflection off oncoming car lights could cause a whole other set of issues. Am I missing something?
Look; I've been with this company for 17 years. Over the last 5-6 years they've kinda gone overboard with "safety" and it scares me to think what's coming next. Football pads? Bubble wrap uniforms?
Guess in short, I was just needing a place to vent. I won't be driving with the new vests on. Could cost me my job, but enough is enough.
Comments welcome.

I work a lot of construction products and lots of companies are doing the high vis crap at all times. You need to bust their butt to get shirts with the high vis on them. No extra vest needed.
I've had a few dealings with air products facilities (as a customer truck) and was not impressed . -
Nothing but a thing. I've been a construction driver for most of my career, and it's the same way in that industry, as well. We had to wear our vests at all times, as well. IMO, you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

sounds more like a driver had been with the company for quite a while and had to do something he thought was really silly. if someone cannot see 65 feet of giants MI how are they going to notice a driver in Orange been driving it

U know...I may actually be making something of nothing. Don't think so, but it's a real possibility.

Aamcotrans and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Get use to it, It seems to be more and more popular now.. There are a few terminals that we go into here in the NE that require them but I usually wear it all the time because of delivering at gas stations. I don't personally have a problem with it because you could always get the T-shirts which are better than wearing a vest.
I know sometimes the rules are a bit crazy but you really never know, I ALWAYS wear sunglasses simply because I don't care for the glare but also because I would hate to lose my eyes and when it's dark I wear safety glasses.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
back when i was dirt moving, the old company i used to work for was the same way we had to wear hard hats and vest all day long even when running an enclosed cab machine, or at lunch (unless you left the jobsite). the foremen were pretty lax about it but if one of the safety guys just happend to stroll by and u werent wearing either...instant 3 days off with out pay second offense 5 days off then 3rd was fired most of the foremen would give a heads up to the operators if the safety guy was buzzing around though which was nice though. nothing but complete insurance ### kissing if u ask me.
