Millis is by far best choice out of that bunch. You can get your CDL on your own. You dont need a school that costs thousands. Or have to commit to a company for x months for tuition reimbursement. You live in Illinois. There is a large russian population there. They have classes "learn to drive truck" $500. Go to a truck stop and ask them (the Russians). I did this in NY with the Polish and got my license. 5 one hour lessons and roadtest $500. My instructor couldnt speak english, but slapped me in the back of the head when I screwed up. I learned real quick. 750,000 miles later no accidents. The small russian companies in IL make money, but trucks are older. Dont conform to the staus quo. I don't know about you but bottom feeder companies pay 400-600. Lease purchase is usually at a loss. Yes less than zero. If you go that route and you get desperate, do moving for a small company in Illinois, $1500-$2000 a week. Then when you get burnt out you can take your experience and work elsewhere. Something to think about. Actual rates that shippers pay, before brokers are $3 to $4 a mile, don't think these mega carriers are your friends. How do you think they have new equipment?

Red, I don't know why you wouldn't go with Millis, unless it is coming up with the $500.00 up front. I am lookin at getting into trucking too, and a lot of people have recommended them to me as well.

If you want to get your cdl you need to do research and go with the company that fits you. You could read for years about bad experiences or call recruiters ask questions and wear the shoe that fits your foot. I'm sure not one company offers all the best choices or we all would be working there. Whatever you choose I'm sure will work out great be safe and good luck.

I went with swift they offered things I wanted and had a terminal close to me. I am in same situation money wise and swift was first to call back and get ball rolling. Like others have said will take awhile to actually start making money but school first. Swift pays for bus ride to academy and home. Fronts cost of schooling and hotel. I paid 35 for physical and brought around $250 for food so about $300 is a good estimate. Not bad for what u can make long term. You only have to work for them for 13 months then you can leave and owe nothing or you might like never know to you try it. Like whatever choice you make I'm sure you will b happy. Good luck be safe.
