30 hours a week on average waiting to get loaded. not paid for this. 15-16 hour days. equipment constantly breaking down. no breakdown pay. overweight loads, over height loads. walk on trash that looks like dog vomit just to roll up a wet, slimy, stinking mesh tarp. no fall protection. can't get enough loads because trucks, and or loaders constantly break down. called in every weekend. when something goes wrong it's always the drivers fault. yep, great company to work for.

Does anyone know if they guarantee a certain number of loads? I was offered a job and he said guaranteed 5 loads a day but then I never heard the guaranteed part again, just 5 loads a day. To me that means I get paid for 5 loads whether I actually haul 5 or not.

It seems like an ok deal, just ok. The family insurance is very expensive and if you don't have guaranteed salary then it is iffy. I'm sure there are days you may only get 2 loads and that just ain't gonna cut it. Plus the main landfill they go to around here only has one tipper I think, I'm sure that can make for long unload times.

They are full of BS! They can't guarantee loads at all, unless maybe you're one of the top guys on the seniority tree. Trash is a fickle commodity. you either have alot of you have a littleI just quit MBI out of Salt Lake on Wednesday. In the beginning they told me how much Money I would make and it I was delayed at all then I would go to hourly pay, and yada yada yada. After 5 and a half years of Lies,no raises, BS vacation time and Paychecks going down ever year and the horrible safety record we have, I couldn't take it anymore. Our Legal Gross is 129,000, we have trucks loading at 150,000. We have guys that have done hit and runs and they're not fired. We have the same Drivers getting in wrecks and/or busting equipment because they are driver 30 over rough dirt roads at the landfill. And the wait for something to happen THEN react to it mentality is too much! MBI is not known for having the best drivers either

If you want just a job, nothing special then go for it. It was nice to have my weekends off, but Dealing with rotten trash that gets on your clothes and all over you is disgusting. And no raises and decreasing benefits and the lack of having anybody there that actually cares about anything but the bottom dollar.

Yeah I'm still disgusted. Here in SLC We haul 2 45' trailers and by law we are prohibited from running both sets when there is snow on the ground. Doesn't stop these clowns. They will run until Drivers start getting pulled over and have their permits pulled and are stranded on the side of the road until new ones are bought. Anyway, this last storm it snowed pretty good out at the landfill and one of the biggest problem drivers we had takes off and jackknifes on I 80 out near Grantsville Utah mm 92 and shuts the freeway down and causes another accident because of his wreck. Nobody gives a crap about anything but the money

Well I haven't decided yet. They start at like 4:30 in the morning and run until like 4:30-5 in the afternoon mon-fri plus every other sat, Thats a good bit of hours for being paid by the load. Figure you have a bad day and only run 3 loads, thats less then $100 for 12 hours of work. Not great.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the other Terminals operate. We are the only ones that run a Turnpike double setup. Out of the 3 runs, 2 pay $100 per trip with hopefully 2 trips a day, with a 180 mile round trip and the last 1 pays $75 a load for 3 trips a day with about 120 mile round trip each. Getting paid by the load is a fickle bugger. The work is very easy, but you have to deal with that stinky trash and no raises. If you want just a job to pay bills and that's it's it, you could do a lot worse.

I've worked for Mr. Bult's for 5 years now... I started in Wichita, Ks. The company was awesome when I first started... (Benefits)Over the coarse of the past few years it has lost a lot of money... I believe this is from other trucking companies trying to get into the waste industry, without knowing they will need a lot of money to cover equipment upkeep. (This is one main factor in not seeing too many raises over the past few years... To keep contracts you have to keep under cutting the bottom line, (remember the industry you work in) All Trucking companies are the same... (Drivers are a dime a dozen) I honestly feel MBI has treated me and my family well! As said before, I started in Wichita busted my butt by taking all opportunities to travel with the company, storm clean ups, terminal help... I've worked out of numerous locations... (not every terminal is the same) some suck! I've seen all aspects of this company...(Mechanic, loader op. driver) The Drivers are paid well if you aren't afraid of a little labor. Drivers in Denver make as much as the guys running over the mountains but, see their bed every night. They don't sit at truck stops for days waiting for their next load, no dead head... If you take away the Load pay and and say it's mileage, it pays around $0.50 per mile, say its hourly its an average of $19.50 per hour... that's been an average I've seen or heard across the board. PRETTY GOOD for the Trucking Industry if you ask me. I know not every ones experience at MBI will be the same... I guess it's who the terminal manager is... Bust your butt pull every load available and save the extra loads you get for slow days and go home on those days... I've always made $50,000 to $55,000 a year since starting at MBI. Rolling the Trap is easy, maybe dirty but, its easy. (not easy for a seat jockey) Terminals I've personally worked out of that have awesome staff, Denver, Wichita, St. Louis, Omaha, Houston. I've also worked with a bunch of guys from Arizona, great group of guys and all seemed happy with their job. Just like any job it's what you make of it... Its a job that'll have loads everyday.

I was offered a job at MBI and worked there very briefly as I was offered another job I was after. I will name some of the good points and some of the bad, a lot of it will be stuff other drivers have already posted.

    *Good*
-It is steady, you will work everyday and every other sat or every sat if you want, that's how my terminal was anyways.
-The pay isn't bad but, the harder you run the more you will make. My terminal had 4 different transfer stations going to 2 landfills, 2 of the runs paid the same per load, 1 paid more per load but was a longer run and the fourth was paid by the ton.
-The trucks, while filthy, are kept up pretty good maintenance wise and my termnal would take a truck out of service if the A/C or heat wasn't working and give you a spare. Oldest truck we had was 2005.
-I didn't experience it but, I heard the insurance is good but a little pricey.
-Nobody really bothers you, you just drive and never really talk to the boss unless there is a problem

I'll add more if I can think of any other good things.

    *Bad*
-You work LONG hours. I'm talking 3:30 or 4:00am until 4:00pm.
-No auto tarps. Walking knee deep in household trash is nasty as hell, they really need auto tarps. Plus climbing on top of the trailer and walking around on unstable crap (literally) is dangerous.
-Pay. While it isn't bad as stated above, you work a lot of hours to get it. My terminal didn't pay hourly for anything so if you break down for 3 hours, you just sat 3 hours for free. Or when you preload your trailer and fuel, no pay. It can suck.
-Waiting a lot. It takes about 10 mins to load a truck and sometimes there are lines to get loaded, same with unloading. You get on the tipper according to seniority on the first round so it might be a long wait.
-You haul HEAVY. We ran 110,000 on 53 foot trailers and they are top heavy as all get out so you dang near have to idle around corners.
-While stable as I said, you will run in any weather conditions. You run in the snow, ice, rain, sleet whatever. The only time i saw them call it quits early was under heavy winds and the was the landfills call, MBI didn't care.
-It stinks, obviously. You are hauling trash so everywhere you go it smells, the truck stinks, you stink, etc. etc.

I'll add more if I think of it but, i didn't work there long so these are just things you will pick up on your first day. They have a major retention problem at the terminal I worked at so they are always hiring drivers.

Don't walk RUN away from MBI. Worked for them for 18 months in Ohio. Took away pay for waiting sometimes as long as 2 to 3 hours to tip your load off. No pay raises and walking in trash to untarp and tarp, wnet thru 3 pair of boots. Run away!
