I hated those big double chains...I always preferred throwing singles myself...

I carry 4 sets of single cable-chains. Only time I've use them was in mid-west ice storms, and then just to get into, or out of, a safe-haven.
There was a guy that posted a great idea! Take a couple wood blocks with ya and place em under the inside dual. This lifts the outside tire off the ground allowing you to chain it w/o having to roll over it one way or the other. Great idea I think!

ya that is a good idea, it's also alot easier to chain before you are stuck than when you are already spun out or stuck...

I've always only had to toss chains to get in and out of jobsites, not to run on the highways with...

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. The power flows through the path of least resistance. The wheel that spins gets the power...which is why you can and will get stuck if ANY of the 4 drive wheels are able to spin freely. When you lock in the power divider, it sends power to both axles...but the power STILL flows through the path of least resistance, except now you have 1 wheel on each axle that will spin. It could be both left side tires....could be both right side tires....could be the front left/right rear....could be the front right/left rear. Whichever tires have the least traction will spin.

Knowing how the differentials work, and knowing how a power divider works, anyone putting only 2 chains on would be a fool not to put BOTH chains on the same axle. It doesn't matter if they chain up the left & right side of the front axle, or the left & right side of the rear axle. Chaining up only 1 side of each axle STILL leaves the other side of each axle with limited traction, so guess what! The unchained tires will spin and you go nowhere.

Like the "bulldog" above said...and he's exactly right,,,chain two outside tires on the same axle, or don't waste yer time.

I do think "boardhauler" was right tho and understands how a differential/powerdivider works. JMO.

Ok,,,this may sound sarcastic, but my 1st. thought was...why do ya have fenders on it anyway? There gonna fall off sooner or later and ya can't chain-up if ya need to. I'd say take em off atleast til spring..

Never used singles before except on steers or trailer. only ever used triples for drive axles.
