Nuthin' to it ... Do a full pretrip with brake check, drive around the yard, go to a truckstop, drive through the parking area, go back to the yard, properly log all your time, demonstrate mirror usage, don't hit anything ... pass.
A mentor at last

I had to take it about 7 years ago. The guy got in told me what we were going to do that night, watched me drive in city for about 5 minutes, said you're good, do what we talked about, then he climbed into my sleeper and slept the rest of the time. Woke him when done, he said go back to the terminal, he slept while I drove back through the city. I logged 8 hours driving and on duty as appropriate, he awoke and signed off on it. Passed

I used to do the exact opposite if i felt the student was ready to go on his own i would drive on his book to get his hours in faster. I only did this when there was no reason for the student to still be on my truck and they wouldnt let me release them early. Bad students ran there own hours and sometimes did more than 240 if i felt they were not ready. That was on the old payscale though sounds like students are getting screwed under the new pay (not getting paid when the mentor is on home time)NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Love the color of your truck! Both of them actually...but mainly, your rig!
I can only hope to one day have a pretty truck too.Newtrucker48 Thanks this. -
It's been 5 weeks of mentoring and all is well. I have driven 11,700 miles so far and logged 150 hours of line 3. My mentor continues to be a great teacher and all around good guy. Due to the freight slow down we haven't team teamed much but we're trying. He guesstimates I'll be done in 2 weeks if freight holds up. We're on home time for 4 days now then we're hoping for another east coast run like we had 2 weeks ago from Mira Loma to Orlando.
I can't believe how worked up I got about getting a crappy mentor. I almost threw in the towel before the fight started. I am thankful every day I got who I got. If anyone is needing a mentor in about 2 weeks or anytime later PM me and I'll give you my mentors info. He'll make it a wonderful learning experience and fun to boot.B*Rocka Thanks this. -
Getting a good mentor/trainer is all luck of the draw ... unfortunately all you will hear about on the forums is about the bad ones. Most are OK, to some really great.

When they start posting about you, at least you will be here to defend yourself ... lol

Yes, I will, but then that will be up to them. Luckily I am very laid back and patient. Heck, I must just even post about what is going on with my students
