A mentor at last

Nuthin' to it ... Do a full pretrip with brake check, drive around the yard, go to a truckstop, drive through the parking area, go back to the yard, properly log all your time, demonstrate mirror usage, don't hit anything ... pass.

 

I had to take it about 7 years ago. The guy got in told me what we were going to do that night, watched me drive in city for about 5 minutes, said you're good, do what we talked about, then he climbed into my sleeper and slept the rest of the time. Woke him when done, he said go back to the terminal, he slept while I drove back through the city. I logged 8 hours driving and on duty as appropriate, he awoke and signed off on it. Passed

 

I used to do the exact opposite if i felt the student was ready to go on his own i would drive on his book to get his hours in faster. I only did this when there was no reason for the student to still be on my truck and they wouldnt let me release them early. Bad students ran there own hours and sometimes did more than 240 if i felt they were not ready. That was on the old payscale though sounds like students are getting screwed under the new pay (not getting paid when the mentor is on home time)

 

Love the color of your truck! Both of them actually...but mainly, your rig!

I can only hope to one day have a pretty truck too.

 

Getting a good mentor/trainer is all luck of the draw ... unfortunately all you will hear about on the forums is about the bad ones. Most are OK, to some really great.

Yes, I will, but then that will be up to them. Luckily I am very laid back and patient. Heck, I must just even post about what is going on with my students
