Soon to be trucker here and seeking advice on best company cdl-a training programs. Also interested in links to youtube vids or websites that offer "pre-school" training to get a head start on things. Thanks, in advance for any assistance.

Read the comercial drivers handbook and read what people have to say about the companies you are considering here. Do some basic searches and you can get all the info you need.

If you get your cdl with a company training program the down side to is that you have to stay with company for X amount of time if you leave early they charge you X amount of dollars. So call the company and ask them those two questions. The next info im about to post i have posted on this forums couple of times already. Call this phone # 1-877-889-5627 its for department of labor its in D.C. Tell them you need information on the work enforcement act. Then they will ask you what city and state you live in and will give you a phone number to call in your city or county. Call that number tell them your calling about the work enforcement act for CDL training. They will give you appointment to go see them. When you go for your appointment they have you fill little bit of paperwork and give you math and English test which are super easy. And they will you a grant for cdl training, It all depends how much grant you get from what city and state you live in. In some cities the grant covers the full school coverage and in some half and in some 3/4. But you have to pass both the math and english test to get the grant. And another thing is people at local city offices always try to make people change there mind about cdl training so they dont have to give the grant they'll try anything to get you to change your mind. I hope this helps

I believe it's called the 'Workforce Investment Act'.

You are correct sir. As much as I hate red tape I'd be a fool not to look into this. I am leaning towards private schooling (after leaning towards company slavery route, as some call it). I expect to learn that mucho funds have been spent and only half of my tuition will be paid, kinda deal but I now see it as a better option. Was initially afraid that I'd have a cdl, no experience, and the mega companies only wanted "slave mill" candidates but others have convinced me that a good private school is a viable alternative.
Heard any scuttlebutt about TDI (truck drivers inst.), sage, roadmaster schools, good or bad? Thanks for the input, saved me from fishing for the name of this aid program.
