Hi,
My name is Tony and I have been following the forum for a couple of months now, yet, this is my first post. Looking to attend Sheridan Technical Institute in Broward county, Florida. Can anyone provide any feedback? The program seems comprehensive with its 9 week course, M-F 7:00am-2:00pm, 320 hrs, 1000 miles of driving. The price I believe is right too at about $2000. From what I read here on TTR with all company schools charging $4000-$6000, the one I am looking at sounds like a bargain!
The school is also a public institution, which means I can get a student loan for the amount, which is also a plus.
Also, any ideas for a company to start with that has terminals in Florida? I know that South Florida is pretty bad for trucking, especially out of Miami, for example (I learned this in the forum). It will be possible for me to move up north to either Jacksonville or Gainesville. Any thoughts?

Try Armellini. They are a team floral carrier based in Palm City.

Arnold if you're moving to Jax. Never worked for them, but they're local and hire recent grads.
tonakis Thanks this. -
FFE (Frozen Food Express) has 2 terminals in South Florida : Miami & Winter Haven.
CTL is big in Central Florida.
BekinsA1jobs has a terminal in Sarasota and several agent terminals throughout FL.
I think MCT 0/0's sometime hires new CDL grads in Auburndale.Last edited: Dec 30, 2012

Good to know Arnold hires newly grads, thanks! I will look into them, definitely. -
Thanks, I am still learning about the companies in the industry - didn't know that FFE have a terminal in Miami, right under my nose! I just went on their website to look for some information, seems like their terminal in Miami is about 25 miles from where I live, which is geat. Any ideas of what should I expect from them? I keep my expectations low, at least for my first year gaining experience. Definitely want to go OTR. Any feedback on FFE? I could not see how much they pay per mile for newbies anywhere on the website. -
tonakis Thanks this.
