What's a cb? Oh yeah it's the same jibberish from 20 years ago. That's why I stopped. Most places ask for a cell phone which is better then the cb. Already I can nap till the phone rings

I quit using a CB very quickly. Never got anything useful off it, just a bunch of horny bored jerks calling me things I won't repeat. Seemed more like a competition of who can have the trashiest potty mouth. I know a lot of drivers consider a CB a necessity, but I never had any problem working without one. It's pretty common now, so shippers/receivers have alternatives (most will take your cell number and call you when done -much more convenient than leaving a CB on anyway.)

I use my c.b. I have to. the shipper calls us in on it. I do not like the garbage, or the over modulated, talk back that bleeds over several channels. but that choice is every ones to make. when I first upgraded from my 25 cobra to my gen lee. I did not use for abuse. it's only 35-50 watts anyway, but when I first got it several years ago I was in MI coming to a 6-8 mile back up due to construction. I followed the directions of some one I never laid eyes on or got close too, but because I & him had a decent radio I got around that back up real easy & it saved my a lot of time. that & my shippers require it, is the main reason i have one. I almost always ask drivers on the side of the road if they are in need of help, cause I have a load of tools & universal parts on board. rarely do I get a response.

about 3 years ago I was near Clanton AL. about 2 miles ahead over a hill, there was stopped traffic on i-65 north. I heard the warning on the c.b. being empty was good, but never the less I slowed to a crawl with my flashers on & crested the hill & nothing was moving. stopped for about 1 minute & I just looked in my mirror & saw a big dust up. did not hear anything, but this was about 3/4 mile behind me. then I heard all the chatter on the c.b. the truck driver pulling a van, obviously did not hear about the parking lot in front of him. he hit the brakes hard, his load shifted & his trailer broke in half right in the right lane of the interstate. I did see that after the dust cleared. I thought if that driver had a c.b. & had it on, he could of avoided that.

Most are too busy with their iPods or talking on their giant freight hauler headset to be bothered with the c.b. Mines always on but, I keep the squelch up, mostly only talk to other bull wagons and the occasional o/o chicken truck...

That spun out car in your lane around the curve that you never heard about because you didn't need a CB might change your mind.

I could take the righteous road here and say:... that as a professional driver it is your job to be aware of road conditions at all times for the safety of the public. If your comfort or dismay at the garbage that comes over the CB airwaves is your only consideration, stop thinking only about yourself!.... but I won't!

Have an nice day in your isolated cocoon.

"What's going on on the eastbound side? Why is traffic stopped?"

"Nothing driver. Turn your radio back off and go back to your game of pocket pool."

Highway jockeys. I know the bull wagons and the hoppers hate to see you guys on the two lanes. Can't read road signs, iPod in your ears, driving blindly. Everyone on the two lane runs a radio for a reason. Save a life and stay on the big road.

I have mine on and will answer anyone that asks the questions you posted. But I do agree, a lot of times if I ask what the road conditions are or what not, I get dead air. However the other day when I was routed out of the way down 30 when 84 was shut down, had a good conversation with another driver that helped the trip go a little quicker. And when we were going so slow over Donner's last week, it was nice to have the company of the CB and the updates on where 4 wheelers slid off and was causing issues.

Last night though, I was at Basha's in Chandler, AZ and I finally had to turn my CB off, there was a guy about every hour "any ladies at the pilot want to kick it, I'm over behind Basha's, c'mon"
    Kind of got boring.
