Roehl Driver Check In

After all the delays yesterday, waiting on what will happen etc... I got loaded at midnight and was so tired stopped after about 3 hrs on I-39/90 at a rest stop in Wisconsin. Won't make it to cons until about 21:00 and also got a preplan for 23:00. So I messaged fm on what the plan is considering I have about another hour before I can get going anyway.

 

Man today sucks butt. Lol i have 14 miles of driving been sitting for 5 hours an only have 5 hours left on my 14

 

I missed something, when did you come about parting ways DirtyDiesel. Thats good you found something is it still flatbed.

 

Still home, I am glad I am here sitting instead of out somewhere in my truck getting aggrevated. Probably be here till Wednesday, but I got a lot of stuff done at home, good times with family over the holidays, and got my truck cleaned and organized. Luckily I ran hard before the holidays 'cause I'm not sure I will even have a paycheck next week.

 

Since it was a GP to GP load, the planner got ahold of the guy that set ETA's at the shipper to see whats up. I guess per that guy me and another driver could drop our loads and one empty trl between the two of us. I said I dont care dropped my load and bobtailed out. Left the bills in the trl compartment up front. Had two copies of the bills so it worked out. ####, I sat on that load with 30 plus hours of layover alone, they wanted me to talk to the guard and get a number, I told them I left and to call shipping to figure it out. I dont wait hand and foot for Roehl anymore especially for some bs I knew that would happen. Thing is that before Thanksgiving I told them I wanted to use my vacation for Christmas and New Years. Well after almost a month out he gave me 7 days off and no vacation. I told him I didnt want to come out deliver a load and sit for New Years and hate working around the holiday bs. Well got both of those wishes true. Could be worse, I was at a stinky paper mill last year waiting on a load, so far at a ok truck stop. And Western Kentucky University guest wifi reaches here so thats another plus. As long as they leave me alone and dont have me scramble to pick something up and then find parking by our set curfew ech. Hope you feel better Treefork as well being sick I'd hate to be out while feeling that way.

 

LOL!! Coop so on how my day went. After dropping and sitting and my 14 ticking away got a preplan to puck up tonight at 2300. Umm thats a little past the shutdown time. So the first idea was wait till my 10 was up and scramble through Houston to get loaded and then park. I informed em im mostly likely gonna get caught out after curfew. So know i will move in closer and pick up time is tomorrow morning asap after 0600 of coarse. Oh and its going to Chicago land by the 2nd at 1830. Yeah we shall see how that goes

Hi all! I have a couple of sons, one is a 21 y/o auto/diesel tech, and the other, well.... He's 26 and sort of "on loose ends" - wondering "what am I gonna do with this kid?". Anyway, he expressed an interest in driving a CMV a while back (to which I perked up, while my 21 y/o son just rolled his eyes). The 26 y/o lives in/near Baraboo WI (whereas I live in the NW burbs of Chicago). I told 26 I would help him in any way that I could (mom split years ago, anyway...) so I actually read some of the threads here - including THIS one from "Post #1"... yeah, took a month. Some of the things you guys have said make Roehl sound like it my be up 26's alley, so we'll have to look into it. Also seem to be a lot of gripes as well (FM dropping ball, PM takes forever, etc...) but probably not much more so than any other biz. I want to add that this thread seemed to "bring to life" the daily reality of the job, so I wish to say thank you to all of you. Happy New Year & be safe! - A.

 

Do your research on plenty of companies, dont just look at one. Roehl dosent work for everyone, but personally I would suggest Roehl i have liked my time i have so far in the company. But i also weighed my options with other companies as well.

I went through Roehl's RDTC program to get my CDL, its a fast paced program but it works.

Whatever company your 26 year old chooses i wish them luck.

 

@kardolmer - yes, it is our every intention to check out a few companies. I've heard some scary stuff about some of them (CR Ehhh...something?), but on another thread someone was thrilled (and happy) with Swift. Nonetheless, "26" lives nearest to Roehl, so that tends to sway my mind somewhat, combined with a lot of the things I've heard on this thread (ie: great starting point, yadda yadda). I just want this boy to make a career move that he'll be happy with. He currently works in a factory, hates it, and has expressed his desire to drive. Initially, I had no idea how to go about it. I do have a friend that used to pull line-haul for a major carrier and he LOVED it (but suffered a medical emergency at the wheel of a Freightliner with doubles.... Didn't hit anyone - thank god - but lost his CDL). He's been a wealth of info for us as well. - A
