Scared truck drivers!!! Scared truck drivers
I-75 and I-85 and for that matter I-20 are all federal highways and you have every right to travel on a federal highway regardless if it goes thru downtown ATL or not....You pay the Ifta and highway use tax and have every right to go straight thru.....I have been going thru the middle of atlanta for more than 30 years, with no bills to show I had a delivery there and I have never been stopped or had a problem with GDOT or any local cops.....Just a bunch of scared truck drivers believing in a story they heard and are scared crapless to go thru the middle
Downtown Atlanta.

and Its a city ordinance that YES they can restrict the use of it in downtown just like most other citys have you go around like Indy with hazmat .Cincinatti Columbus oh..and many others you would nt break the law there so why do you do it in my town.....dude I am not gonna argure the point with you....You know you are not supposed to be downtown unless picking up or delivering there....your time will come and it will cost you MUCH MUCH money like i said you'll get away with it 99 times out of 100 but if you can afford it keep doing what you feel you need to brother..alaga Thanks this. -
I saw a NASCAR hauler get pulled over on 75 just before the airport one evening. This was right before the race and I guess the DOT cop knew that he was obviously probably headed for the track. That was obvious by the type of trailer he was pulling. Normally they aren't going to bother you unless you're doing something stupid. Stay in the two right lanes. Keep in mind the lanes are more narrow. I don't know if it's a state reg or city that you can't go through the middle unless you have a delivery. One thing to consider is if you are involved in an MVC and you were inside the perimeter without a delivery or pickup. Even if there is another vehicle involved and it was their fault, the lawyers will say you shouldn't have been inside and therefore you shouldn't have been there for their client to run into and hurt themselves. About eight years ago I was inside making a pickup. I was stopped in the lane of travel waiting to turn left into this business when a van drilled the back of my trailer. The van driver did admit fault and was cited. I was never worried about anything but I was surprised when the cop (Dekalb) asked me what I was doing inside the perimeter. Nothing ever happened from this incident and I was never asked prior or since about being inside.

The fine varies by county. I think there's 4 counties inside the "suicide circle." Dekalb county got some big tickets for truckers. They don't put them on your record but they are a big. I drive along the bottom side of the loop. Democratic section of town, which means not much traffic. No need to run the middle unless the loop is shut down.

Yeah I'll just stay out unless I need to be there. all went fine. I would however like to meet the genius that named two consecutive parallel streets Peachtree.

I like it when I keep all my "Blinkys" on & 4 Cop motorcycles escort me out. Love Peachtree rd. $$$

The signs use to be pretty far away like a mile. They ain't by the last split signs. The ones on I-75 S were right before the last overpass. They say something like "All thru trucks must use I-285". I ran the majority of my backhauls down there and one year I ran local down there twice a day. I might of seen 2 trucks pulled over in that time. More talk than action. But who's the lucky one?

I pull Oversize. The Boys paid for me to be there. Love spending their $$
Crane people don't work in the dark, It's a Win Win

I remember years ago when I pulled oversized. Wide loads weren't that bad but the 60 foot stretch trailers with the overhang become a little hairy at times when it required using sidewalks and a little bit of bending road signs to get in the spot I needed to be
