I run linehaul for Con-Way freight, and I love it. Far better money than anything else "company driver-ish", and I am home every day. Working the dock, securing freight, building decks, is what keeps you from being a lazy door swinger. Having to dispatch and do paperwork? Big deal...paperwork is one part of this job you will. Ot get away from. I get paid for everything...hooking my set, filling out my 265, dispatching...everything...good luck getting that at a .ileage carrier. If you want the job that people are jealous of, you have to deal with what comes along with it...i have full benefits (use my wifes insurance, as you wont find a plan better than what we have thru her place), but pto, , 401k, etc. We have guys making $80-90k a year, and those aren't freak guys, those are guys who actually come in and do their job.

I was bottom man for about 6 weeks, and a guy got hired under me, and two higher ups quit...so I bumped up real quick. Gotta keep a positive attitude.

Do what you want to do. Who cares what other people want? Who cares what other people think is right for you? If you want to go OTR, then do it.

I once had a local job hauling gas/diesel fuel, which most drivers seem to consider some kind of utopia. I quit that job to go OTR with Swift, which most drivers consider some kind of hell. I don't regret it at all. I was much happier with Swift than the local tanker yanker job.

What is best for someone else is not going to be best for you. Make your own decisions, instead of just following the herd.

I think averitt is the bottom of the barrel in the ltl world but I would still put up with them before going with a otr company. I run linehaul with Estes. It's great. These 4 day holiday weekends aren't bad either.

If your picture tells where you work, why don't you move over to a regional spot with Averitt and see how you like it? To me it seems they have a nice balance, with the home every weekend thing. I work for Con-way Freight like Century, and as crazy as it sounds I've been fighting off the OTR bug here recently myself. My wife would kill me if I went back out on the road though! :biggrin_25524:

I've decided to stick around until August of this year and see what happens.

That is not a true statement. You can't lump all truck drivers together. If I worked 8 hours every day, my salary would come out to $49,708.80. That is with having weekends off, 3 weeks vacation, 11 holidays and 12 sick days.

Now that doesn't include the overtime every day nor does it include working on a holiday.

I guess I'm not an ordinary truck driver?
