Making V-Boards

i used roofing nails then wrapped the strap around the two boards i was going to use.i used 2x4's so I didn't have to carry V-boards and dunnage.

 

I space them such that there is the width of one 2X4 between the two I'll be nailing together. This is a bit tight if you're planning on laying them all out before you throw and hook your straps, but they stay put just fine if you throw and hook your straps, then just slide them under.

On a side note, when I do end up breaking one board of the two, I just get out the saw, and make a cut 3'9" in from each end. Add another section of strap to the freshly cut end, and you've got a good vee board for a single pallet, like when they load an odd number of rows of shingles on the truck, and even better when protecting your straps against odd crates and stacks of flagstone.

 

only problem is when the strap is too long it hits the material and dents the edges it when tightened so take that in consideration on your spacing , may not matter on your material but you might have to shorten them later on stuff with edges , asphalt roofing junk type stuff comes to mind. also you can fit a lot more 1"x4"s in landing gear and other places than 2x4s but no doubt bigger is stronger.

 

best thing to do---find someone with a metal press, get yourself some sheet metal, lengths of 4, 6, and/or 8 feet, 8 inches wide, and bend in center.
