Well, I don't understand all the bear reports. I mean, we used to need them because we were speeding. Like 80-90 in 55 zones, real speeding. Now it's guys running 64 and I got to follow them across three states and listen to them hollering bear reports every 5 or 10 minutes. really ?? nah, I'll shut it off and listen to some music. thanks just the same.

the OP mentioned he always asks if somebody on the side of the road needs help and he never gets an answer. Well, you just keep askin' buddy. Obviously, the first thing a broke down truck is going to do is turn off their radio and pull out a cell phone, why don't you wise up and just listen, if they aren't asking for help on the cb they probably got it handled or got the cb off. You okay big truck, hey, broke down big truck, you okay ? The few times I've heard someone comeback, the cb jockey didn't even stop anyway.

I remember when pink panties was a new joke !! and I'm tired of hearing it, so I don't use my cb much.

while driving, and concerned about road conditions, a CB is obviously superior to a cell phone. due to the the cb's ability to reach multiple like-minded individuals concurrently. this superiority is limited by the number of like-minded peoploe using it... which is next to none now it seems, unfortunately. Do you have the # for each driver around you, up ahead of you? no. cell's are only good for making targetted inquiries or wasting time talking to your mommy. giving up on CBs is basically, giving up on having scouts in an army. really, a brilliant idea.

I try to use my cb, but ... my antennae are junk, and its a company truck. If you can hear me.... its likely too late.

I was going to reply when this thread first started what a waste of money my cb is. Since then i had a nice hour or so conversation on a lonely backroad, got the live play by play on an accident coming down Cabbage and had a shipper call me over it when they were ready to load me, go figure...

A couple weeks ago i ran all the way across TN with two fancy dump buckets.
They passed me and i was being good only running about 78 or so.
Of course i fell in with them and hammered it. These guys were getting it done so what a dang good front door.

Heck,we come through the no fly zones in Nashville and Knoxville doing 75 to 80.

These were two old timers but very pleasant on the radio. We talked all the way to Hickory NC.
FUN ride! Made the night go by fast and was a pleasure to run and chat with these guys.
They were both in really nice W-900's and was making fun of my plastic truck flying apart at high speeds...lol!
Said they never seen a 13 letter sheet spreader run that good....lol!
It was all in fun and i would love to run like that and talk more often.........
Ahhh....just like i stepped back in time 20 years!

January 7th 2013, 5:45pm CST, I-59 south Hattiesburg, mm67. I'm rolling southbound, doing 5 under. I got tunes playing, and the CB turned down. I hear something about 'southbound.' Turn off the stereo and crank the CB open, squeltch all the way down. "SOUTHBOUND! xxxxxx xxxxx xx xxxxxx!!!!!!!!!!! The driver is screaming on the radio but theres worlds of chatter going on and everyone's stepping on each other.

Six: What did you say about southbound?

Driver: Southbound, you got a 4wheeler traveling north in the southbound lane!

What???? I look down the road and see a 4 wheeler put on brakes. I see headlights. Oh #####. Sure enough, a car was running north on southbound 59. I had another trucker following me. Couldnt make him out behind me.

Six: Southbouth, you got a 4wheeler running north at the 67!!!!

I hit my hazards. The car was coming north in the southbound hammerlane. A pickup truck saw my hazards and instantly did that dumb 4 wheeler thing that all 4 wheelers do in an emergency: Speed up until you match speeds with the bigtruck and ride right beside the 18. Great! Now I will be involved in an accident. I slowed. The pickup slowed. I sped up. So did the pickup. 100 yards from each other, the northbound car and the pickup finally see each other and realize that they are about to have a head on. The pickup almost lost control but came to a complete halt in the left lane and the northbound car hit the shoulder. I'm to the right of the rumble strip cursing my luck. The idiot pickup driver dives in behind me.

Stopped at the truckstop and met up with that other trucker.

Six: Did you see that car going the wrong way on the bigroad?

Trucker: Yes! Saw him rolling on the left shoulder. He was trying to figure out how he was going to get to the northbound lanes.

Six: I was trying to shout a warning to you.

Trucker: Everyone on the northbound side was screaming warnings 5 minutes before I saw him.

Anyways, I appreciate you drivers for shouting out warnings on the CB for the other drivers heading the other way.
