man oh man, my hubby stayed at that very flying j, about 5 nights ago. i will tell him. thanks for the heads up. however, he never answers knocks on the door after he is in the sack. and he parks as far out as he can. to keep away from the lot lizards.

the bears can go into the truckstops, can ask to see logs, can check plates, they can even ask to see the insurance and registration, but they can not wake a driver up, (parked legaly) to ask the above, or to do a random search, however, if they are running dogs, and the spot on the truck then they have probabel cause, just like if your licence plate was missing, or a window busted out

the reason he knocked on the Drivers door... simple... once a driver touches or sits in the drivers seat to talk to the officer the driver is now on duty....line 4... and if log does not reflect that then you have a logbook violation.. so reach across but do not touch the driver seat... or simply point to the passenger door... once on break and in bunk... i simply roll over and go back to sleep if it is not time to get up... no law states you have to get up and answer your door... you are on break... what are they going to do? start jumping up and down? curtain close and sleep.... let them knock..

They repeatedly knocked on the door of the truck calling out DEA or Homeland Security until the driver was woke up. -
This is why I suggest boobytrapping one's truck to discourage unwanted knocking.
I notice the last guy in that article to comment said that such intrusions make him "feel safe." Then I'm sure that he wouldn't mind being the subject of all such unwanted attention so the rest of us can sleep. -
Post a sign on the truck. Knocking allowed and let everyone else be left alone.
I would have to think, I live in Illinois, the cops were having a big chest day. Why else would they knock on a truck at 6 am. Just because they slept their time last night, that trucker may have just got parked an hour ago. They lacked intelligence.
The landline article mentioned that the Illinois State Police does not partake or support these activities. They want the trucker to get proper rest. -
If that's the case, then I salute the ISP for at least having a collective brain.

They ARE NOT allowed to wake you up. FMCSA states that you must have uninterrupted 10 hour break and are not allowed to be disturbed unless it is an actual emergency. Wanting your K-9 to sniff around is not an emergency.

Oh no! That is NOT right! I would tell the Flying J they had better not let them in again on PRIVATE property! I have a good contact at Flying J headquarters and I will let them know about this one for sure! That is WRONG and WRONG for the Flying J to allow it on PRIVATE property! What is this? Nazi Germany?
Oh no, I won't let this go and we are going to make them STOP it! YOU drivers have the power to do so, do NOT put up with that ####! I would REFUSE and if they arrested me, I would see them in court for darn sure! Phew, this makes me madder than a one-legged dog in a puddle of piss. I am so #### mad right now I can hardly sit still hearing this!
