    I am seeing some of the same numbers Pete. I've read about high oil consumption on these engines but mine use none. We run oil analysis and drop the oil at the recommended 40,000 interval and everything looks great. These engines have impressed me so far. My dealer worked with me to get better performance with the engines. With a good driver, that keeps fuel mileage in mind, I turned off progressive shift to give better performance when needed on take off. This helped greatly when gaining speed to enter traffic lanes on the interstate. I also increased the top speed from 68 to 70 and to my surprise I didn't lose any fuel mileage. The driver running the test said that it was like we had put another engine in the truck. I have since given all the drivers the same setup with the same results. The engines are a different breed to say the least.

    I most say you shouldn't give so much information.:biggrin_25526:
    Otherwise we might actually learn something.

    Certainly...2008 DAF XF 105.460...450,000kms on the clock....It developed the usual MX flaw....Cruising along at 1300 rpms with a payload of 6,000kgs in the back and with no warning ...BANG. What actually happened was it cracked an exhaust valve spring and dropped a valve....taking a piston liner and head with it. The turbo and exhaust box(SCR system) were replaced as a matter of form.

    It is one of several Irish DAFs after doing so to date.

    The main problems I have seen with this engine are;

    (1) Burning oil

    (2) Dropping vales

    (3) Troublesome SCR systems

    I am led to believe DAF has worked hard to sort out these issues with improved piston rings,beefed up valve springs etc,but time will tell all I am sure. To be fair to it,the engine is economical and not a bad puller either.

    Well i have the mx standard issue t700 from trans am...the shift points are low unless you go manual..but the transmission programming is for best fuel economy...that being said a good week for me is 1700 a bad week includes home time and is 120... Take what you want from this... All regular services performed and 1 yr m0ain costs are 2500... By the way that main number includes the 200,000 service @ 700 bucks

    Hi Proud trucker...Any update on how your fleet are performing? As the 2009 & 2010 Daf MX's are creeping closer to the 1,000,000km mark,they seem to be giving more satisfactory service and less problems than the early 2007 & 2008 MX engines. Perhaps Daf have sorted out the 'teething problems' these engines had? Fuel economy is known for being very good...particularly with part throttle/light load applications....

    Hello Riverstick....I have analyzed these MX powered T-660's for a little over a year now and I am a pleased. I feel that if my company hauled lighter and traveled less mountainous terrain that 7 mpg would be well within reach. Under the conditions that we are operating, running close to 80,000 lbs gross most of the time and hauling to the east coast they are consistently averaging 6.5 driving fuel economy. My pre emission CAT C-15's and Series 60 Detroit's are around 6.0 driving fuel economy. My MX powered units are averaging .63 cpm and my other units, Cat and Detroit powered, are averaging .69 cpm in fuel cost. Based on our yearly miles I am saving $8400 per unit per year in fuel. I have felt the savings in my pocketbook since purchasing these units.
    The reliability of these engines has been outstanding. Since the initial break in I have had zero downtime due to the engines. They have an average of 140,000 miles on them now and I can't report any problems that would keep me from purchasing more when the time comes to replace older units.

    Hi Proudtrucker. Very positive results indeed. Delighted to hear they are performing satisfactory and good on fuel. How is driver acceptance and how up to date are the dealers with these engines?

    Riverstick,

    As far as the dealers are concerned, I haven't had enough problems with the engines to evaluate them. The longest a unit was down was overnight because of a dosser valve in the after-treatment system. The truck was in Toledo, OH and made it to the dealer late in the day and they had it up and running by noon the next day. My local dealer takes good care of us and my biggest complaint is the need to constantly take the units to them for engine software updates. I'm told that Paccar is continually evaluating the engines for improvements so I guess this is a good thing even though inconvenient.
    My drivers have adapted to the new engines. I had one hit a deer and moved him to a spare T-600 while his was being repaired. The T-600 has a 60 Series Detroit and he couldn't wait to get his T-660 back. I was surprised by his comments that he really didn't realize how good the T-660 was until he didn't have it anymore.
    I in the process of ordering 5 more since they have been reliable and efficient units. I'm told that in 2014 new regulations will really hurt the engines with a lot more sensors and a mandatory top speed of 64.5 mph.
