18yr team buying 1st truck, need advice on used truck purchase

    Actually I need to amend my reply. SmartWay doesn't apply to custom sleepers. you can make any kind of sleeper you want and haul freight. Smartway is directed at mass manufacturing, not ARI, ICT, Bentz, or any of these other sleeper manufacturers.

    Also, the new clean diesel isn't going anywhere anytime soon. There seems to be leaps and bounds of progress towards CNG and LNG, but still another decade at least of hurdles to get over and then the price needs to come down to get close to diesel, but diesel prices are going up.

    Still as an O/O, if you plan to spend weeks on the road at a time as we all do, the kitchen, shower, toilet, satellite tv, and APU will save you time, money, and stress.

    Thanks to everyone for all the advice and guidance. We bought a 2009 Volvo 780 with 465hp I-shift, 3:21 rears and a Tri-Pac APU. We will see y'all out there!

    So we bought a 2010 Volvo 780 from Jordan Truck Sales in Carrollton GA. Jake Jordan and everyone there is great and we recommend Jordan Truck Sales to anyone looking to buy a used truck! They detail a truck like no one else can. They are knowledgeable, helpful, honest and real. Can't say enough good things about them. Will buy our next truck only from them.

    We have been running with Landstar for about 6 weeks. We have had some EGR issues. That's to be expected with the Volvo 13 liter. Volvo dealers have been GREAT and parts always in stock....dealer network&parts availability has hugely improved from 5 years ago when we were in a company Volvo 780. We are lovin' our smooth riding, quiet and comfortable truck.

    How's the fuel mileage? Friend on mine has a '13 VNL670 with a 12 speed auto I-shift, lo-pro 22.5 and unknown rears.. That truck gets near 8mpg running 68-71mph pulling light loads 53' dry van... Not the most powerful engine but the fuel mielage is great...

    We have a 485hp, 13ltr, 12speed, premium I-shift package, 295 lo-pros, 3:21 rears, and runs at 1475rpm at 70mph and gets 8+mpg w/ light loads pulling 53' dry van. We get 10.5mpg w/ empty 53' dry van at 63mph. Super HAPPY with this fuel mileage.
