What kinds of speeds can you get away with while driving? In a car most will let you by up to 10mph over the posted speed limit. Is it the same in a truck? Assuming your truck can go 10 over the posted limit.

Most wont bother you as long as you're under 10 over, on interstates and highways anyway... I've gone by several doing 77-78+ in a 70 and have never been messed with.. The ones you have to watch are the local cops that sit on the interstate just for revenue, they are a lot more likely to get you than H.P. or D.O.T.

some folks have good luck with the law, some people dont. dont give them any reason to mess you. just do the speed limit. What the rush??? I ALWAYS do 65 set it on cruise control and just ride. usually at 65 you never have to worry about switching lanes to pass anybody. everyone is passing you. then you always got that one guy passing you so fast and you exit 100 miles later at a truckstop and he's just exited too. to me its poinless going fast. but everyone has their own way of driving.

I agree with the above poster. Don't give LEOs a reason to pull you over, and they won't. Also, every LEO is different. Case in point:

My truck isn't governed, but I never speed; and for good reason. A few years back while going through Orlando, I was cruising on I-4 in a pack of about 5 trucks. I was doing the speed limit (50), and the other trucks were about 5 over the limit. We came around to the OBT exit, and lo-and-behold, FHP had a speed trap set up. Of all the trucks in my pack, I was the only one that didn't get pulled over, so even going 5 over doesn't pay off.

I thought there was a law about running in a convoy of 3 or more. I think I read that somewhere, maybe just for California? Maybe it was a dream?

15 is the real magic number. get caught doing that, and you may be looking for a job the following day. and it most likely wont be in trucking.

the repercussions for getting tickets are too darn high anymore. get a speeding ticket in your car (for someone whos not a truck driver) and its a couple points, a small fine, and you can get the points taken away by taking a class. get one as a truck driver (car OR truck) and youve got a black mark on your dac and points on csa. get a couple, and you wont be able to get that higher paying driving job youve been looking at. get a few, and you may get fired and lose your livelihood. the costs are steep. and going 5 over... in 11 hours youve gone a whole extra 55 miles. most all loads if you are driving with a larger carrier have WAY too much time on them anyway. i dont even speed in greater chicago, where many of the interstate speeds are 45, and everyone else is doing 60 or better. like theyve said above, its simply not worth the cost/risk.
