How easy is it to take vacation with Schneider or any other mega carrier?

If your cruise is far enough out from your hire and training they probably won't.have a problem I have not worked for schnieder but have talked to a lot of happy drivers with them every trucking job I have had as long as gave them notice ahead of time I have been able to get off for family events or whatever but I have always worked more as a regional driver instead of otr .

When I was working corporate jobs in the 70s and 80s, you didn't *get* a vacation until you were with the company at least a year. You could get 3 personal days if you made it after three months. Didn't matter if you had plans.

 

That would be a real yes or no factor for me. I value my personal life, so if a company isn't going to work with me about time off, I'm not going to bother driving for them. Just because you're just starting out doesn't mean you have to risk getting a divorce.

 

You had better check idle policy if your going with Schneider. They only let you idle below 20 and above 90. I drove for them back in 2000. I drove for them a little last year. Do your research.

 

The only option if one needed to take that vacation would have been to start the new job after the vacation was over.

 

Theres no harm in asking. Just do so as far in advance as you can. SNI seems pretty good about letting you have a life. You wont be paid for the time till your a year in, but you may get some time off unpaid.

 

It shouldn't be a big problem to take time off however like the other poster said typically the mega-carriers will not let you take more than 3-4 days off in a row. If you do so they will make you turn your truck in. Keep in mind that they are paying for this expensive truck while it sits in your driveway not making any revenue!

No matter what I highly recommend that you stay away from the mega-carriers! Apply to the smaller companies and you will have a much higher chance at success! Sure its a little tougher and not as easy peasy as hiring on with a mega-carrier but it will be well worth it! Also keep in mind that the recruiters and employees at the schools get paid to send you to the mega-carriers so its in their best interest to not recommend any other companies or avenues to you. Take the time and do your own home work and find a good company that is going to best suit you.
