It will be hard. Especially with a family. There are going to be many times where you wish you could just go home and give up for the day. Being on the road for 1-2 weeks at a time will cause you to miss things. Birthdays and holidays will have to be adjusted and celebrated when you get home. There will be times where you are going to have to drive past your house and not have time to stop.
While you may not be home every day you will still have the phone. I have talked to my dad almost every single day since I started driving. It helps me to have somebody back home to talk to and keep me in the loop of what's happening. Even if it's just talking about what we did at work that day, it's something to keep me connected to home while I am hundreds or thousands of miles away.
Another option is to use a program like Skype. Get a laptop with a webcam built in and a small webcam for home. Then you can do video chats with the kids or your wife and while you may not be there they can still see and talk to you.
Just remember, it's only a job. Family is far more important than any job.
Good luck with the job and I hope it all works out for you.

I do have something lined up and I was offerred the job pending my background check. I recently got my hazmat endorsment so im not worried about this company doing a background check. Its with a company thats fairly big, they are hiring 4 guys, 2 will leave at 2 am and two guys will leave at 8 am. Its a drop and hook type thing where i will leave winston salem nc, drive out to knoxille tn area, exchange trailers with other employees from a different distribution center and come back to winston. mon thru fri and about 47-50 hrs a week, overtime after 40 hrs....so barring any thing in my past i dont know about i should be good to go come mon or tues this week. What i am doing is being prepared to do something with schneider.....always good to have backup plan....

Did we already answer this? It's no difference then your every day pretrips. Only difference is they will give you a cheat sheet for pre and post trips, and one for Schneider's way of hooking and unhooking. They will go over every with in orientation. thing

They first check your blood pressure if its to high they send you home. Next they take your pulse and o2 level, use it as a base line. After each drill they check pulse to make sure its not to high. Also beside the weights and steps they have a simulated trailer you have to bend over and squte with out touching or putting on ground if you can't do it you fail. Then you have to climb into the back of trailer properly. They will instruct you how to do each test. If your heart beat gets to you fail. These are the first things you do in orientation
