Has anyone else with a w900 or t600/t660 or t800 had the low water warning light coming on for no reason. This has been an ongoing thing with my w900 and a friend of mine has been beating his head against the wall with the same problem on a t800. I have been through 3 water level sensors and finally replaced the plug and short harness that plug into the back of the sensor and then into another plug a little further back and it has one long wire that goes to the fire wall with a male plug end. This solved my problem but it's strting to happen again. Water level is good on mine so was just wondering if this a common problem. Truck is a 07 and has an ISX, friends truck also has an ISX.

I know this might come a little late but this is what happened to me. I have a 04 w900 with a cat engine and my coolant level will always run below the sensor, but after it would run for about 3-5mins the coolant would expand and light would go out. Don't know if this is happening with yours, but what i did is hook up to computer and shutdown the low coolant light. I do keep good eye on coolant levels and never is low, but I am also the only driver of this truck. It runs about 2-3in below the spout in the rad. This really Ped me off but now I don't have that darn light coming on every morning. Hope this helps if u ain't already got it figured out.

the only time mine would go off is if the rad was low.....had a problem with losing coolant...finally found the problem...the short hose goin into the top of the thermostat had a hole in it...replaced it and all was good for about 2 weeks...then i smelled antifreeze and the rad was bad. spent 1295 for a new rad, replaced it in the driveway...now no problems at all

For some reason the harness and sensor are goofy around getting wet or moisture. If it tends to be a continuous problem and you are the driver and watch coolant level I would have the sensor bypassed in the parameters and unhook it.

my 379 with isx does it as well its a bit annoying but just turn the stereo up louder if you are sure the level isnt low--it will go out in a few minutes
Thursday Thanks this. -
the three wire sensors have problems with the tips of sensor coating up due to the electrical current going through the sensor and the anti-freeze counter acting with it, do believe they up dated the sensor to fix it.
Also the wire harness, the wires always breaks inside the insulation and causes and open circuit, that wire that goes to the firewall has a 2 amp fuse in the cep panel, if it blows it causes a code also.
the two wire sensor in the plastic tanks are the same, wire breaks close to the connector, too much flexing when the fan is on. The float in the tank will stick sometimes to. -
My truck doesn't even have a water level sensor.. Have to keep a close eye on that the old fashinoned way.

Float? - There is a float in there?
I thought they used something called a murphy switch. Just a set of contacts?
I know in a pinch, I can connect up the two wires on my tank together and shut this alarm off. -
Wow, i forgot about this. I haven't had the problem occur for a while now so i'm hoping that i got it solved, just checked the sensor and harness connections and made sure they we're clean and all has been good. I appreciate all of the replies and ideas of what to do about this problem, I've been surprised at all of the differents things that cause this including some that seem as if it's by design. Trucks from different years seem to do it for different reasons which i find annoying because that means intead of fixing this issue Kenworth just figures out new ways for it to happen, i did hear they had to do some updates on the sensors and wire plugs so hopefully i"ve got the better ones now.

If you have a plastic overflow tank there is a float inside. The tank needs to be replaced if the float is bad.
