I apologize if I inferred your stature in life with my 'grasshopper' reference. It was not my intention.

As for the internet and when you started driving, not to brag, but I remember 50 baud and teletypes. I ran one of the only BBS's in the area that allowed 300bps users access when others began at 1200. I was working on computers that contained modules of 8K CORE (yep, little magnetized 'donuts'). Again, not to brag, but I worked to discreet computer components, i.e., resistors, capacitors, and the like. IC's - integrated circuits - followed soon afterwards, as you can imagine. I was taught vacuum tube theory - in high school. Lastly . . . . nah; never mind. [I remove myself from the soap box HERE]

how many minutes are there between each "exercise" during orientation? like step test for one minute, check heart rate...then what, a couple minutes or so or is it bang bang bang one right after the other? are they really strict with the pre work screen? like if someone doesnt pass something the first time, do they let ya redo it? just wondering

 

If my memory serves me correctly, maybe 1 or 2 minute intervals. They'll want your heart rate to return to the base level, or as close as possible, prior to each exercise. You'll be in and out in no time, for sure. I was amazed as to how quickly the exercises were completed. However, that's ME.

 

Don't remember about redoing failed tests as everybody in my group passed.

There's a few minutes between each test. None of it is overly strenuous just simple things to show you can do the job. There's a video on their website in the recruiting section somewhere.

Oh yeah, and thy ask to shave your legs or arm pits if your hair on your head isn't long enough lol

 

Look, it's really not hard at all.......I've seen some folks pass that were grossly overweight and not in any kind of condition to do physical / manual labor. A couple of suggestions though; first, if you smoke or drink coffee, don't at least 1 hour before the test.......it will jack up your BP. Second, unless you really like wearing an oxygen mask to bed every night, choose your answers to the sleep apnea test very carefully. If you don't know what the correct answers are, you might want to do a little research.

To the dude that wants to come to SNI to make more money and leave a 2 year old and 6 year old behind......I personally think you're making a mistake. To begin with, at .26 a mile for at least the first 3 months and perhaps 6 months, about the best you're going to take home is $700......count on a range of $550 to $650. Second, it's plenty tough being on the road when you don't have children.....when you do, every day after the first would be like torture (to me anyway). Take it from someone who knows, you can never get back that time you miss with your children......never. And never believe for a minute that just because you scheduled Time At Home (TAH) for a particular day, you're actually going to get there that day.....may be the day before, may be the day after, may be that they forgot about it entirely.....not on purpose, but it happens. And being behind the wheel wondering if and when you're actually going to get home is torture; multiply that by 100 if you have a child waiting on you.

As to the other stuff, pretrip, hooking, trip planning, don't worry......they will teach you the Schneider way......heck, they'll even teach you how to get in and out of a trailer the SNI way......really.

well from talking to the recruiter about my experience driving she said i would start at .37 cpm for the regional/weekly time at home.....not the best but better than the .26 you put. it still wont make me a millionaire though lol....at that rate, what do you think the average take home per week may be? also, i have a daily home trucking job now, but im only getting 25-30 hrs per week and believe me, ive looked for awhile for another home daily job. Just not happening. Do i want to leave me kids and see them only once a week for a couple days? no, not really. if i do join schneider, i dont plan on doing it forever.

 

oh and when your check after taxes is 350 bucks a week, coming to schneider i will be making more lol.....sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to support the family, even if it means being gone during the week....(believe me i dont want to leave them)

 

Regional, is a different can of worms altogether. As I understand it, these guys really do go home every weekend, and it's not a bad gig at all. Also, I'm pretty sure that some of our local regional guys even make it by the house from time to time during the week.
If I were to guess / budget a regional job, I would budget at 2000-2200 miles per week. I'm sure there are some other fellas that could add some insight, but that's where I'd start. The .26 is what they pay new guys on per diem just out of school......sorry for making a bad assumption.....
Also, most parents (fathers usually) don't see much of their kids during the week, so you might not be missing much......certainly not as much as OTR. Good luck, I completely understand what it's like to have to make a living and some of the sacrifices one has to endure to do so.

 

no problems about the assumption lol. if i ever run into ya ill buy ya a beer ( wait, were drivers, ill get ya a coke lol) But, yeah the regional, weekly time at home maay work pretty good. Ill copy and paste the email my recruiter sent me....

Regional drivers need to live within a 50 mile radius of Charlotte or Greensboro, or need to be willing to park in one of those locations. The regional drivers have a choice of being out for 6-7 days or 8-10 days, with 34-48 hours off. They try to get those drivers home as close to the weekends as possible, but it may not be a full Saturday and Sunday every weekend. I have attached the pay and benefit information. Take home pay is different for everyone ( based on their tax exemptions, insurance choices, miles driven, etc.) I can't quote that, but you can get an idea of the gross pay from the attached. so again, not seeing them during the week will suck big time, but as you know, you gotta make a living. And this "job" i have now, were slowly sinking behind the bills so I gotta move quick...and im planning a disneyworld trip for my family in april of 2014....so if i start with sni in the next couple weeks, i should have my vacation time next yr lol...
