The C.C I went to uses state employees for Instructors so it is less expensive than others, because they have to pay an outside source to come to the school to teach. 1600.00 verses 5000.00 big difference
but if they gaurentee placement thats a biggie as most don't gautentee that.

Well, I know I have bad credit, that could be one thing.
I also know that alot of people are prejudiced. Since it says M on my license, they probably think I'm just a wierdo. To avoid that, I try to dress androgynously so as not to identify with either one.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), God has blessed me with 44D chest size, so it's difficult at best to get around that.
Thanks for the positive replies. I'm just terrified of this situation.... getting training, but no way to pay for it. -
I am In the process of getting hired also, and the only way that I know to look at this is, If I owned a trucking company, If I thought you really wanted to work, I would hire you and give you a chance. Don't give up, Keep trying . they are not ALL corporate as-----s

Hey Frystar, if you left RPS (now Fedex Ground) on good turns, you may want to contact them. They do say they hire students, and running linehaul can be a good way to go. Just a thought. You would most likely be a driver for an O/O to start (probably what you were doing for RPS), and then with enough exp. you can look to get your own truck and work for yourself.
Good luck! -
No, me and FedEx Ground didnt leave on the best of terms=) Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Get your cdl,get into school and dont worry about it. I just started school and I'm so happy to have the stress off my back about what school, when, where. Go for it and dont let anyone stop you. If you think the issue is about strength or any physical challenges then work on it so no one has excuses. I had to get my physical before even taking the written test, then to get a unemployment grant I had to do reasearch, old job,new job, future, statistics then go take the whiz quiz before they sent the money. So I did and I'm in school.
GO FOR IT!!
YOU WILL BE SO HAPPY IF YOU FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. -
I don't think it would be your credit history, as I know that Driver Solutions doesn't run credit checks and I don't think CRST does either.. I know that around the holidays many schools will shut down if they're attached to a college or university (winter break) or their capacity will go down because of less employees being able to work during the holidays. That's about all I could think of.. but I seriously don't think it would have anything to do with your medical situation.

You're right, credit reports don't reflect male or female. None of those applications asked me to specify (fortunately, since you can't click both).
The ONLY difficulty I envision is which bathroom I'll use. I use the females (body of a female), but I get evil looks and one comment one time (masculine face).
It was rather amusing. "Excuse me, this is the female restroom". Me-"Yes, I know!" My voice blew them away since it's female, so they apologized=)
Sigh.... let no one tell you different, being both is a HECKUVA trial and tribulation. -
Fyrstar, best of luck to you. Never apologize for who you are, just live your life and do what you have to do. There are all sorts of people in trucking, and at least in Wisconsin it is against the law to discriminate based upon gender or sexual orientation, and people of either sex or gender come in all shapes and sizes. Apply yourself, get your CDL, and you'll find a company where you'll fit.
As for comments from the peanut gallery at school or companies you're applying to, ignore them. Ignorant jerks abound in this world, and they're just not worth your time. -
I heard a similar story while in school for CRST. You are most likely right in your assumptions. CRST sent the student home because "it would be too difficult to place with a trainer". They have done it before, and no doubt in this case they probably did it again. Of course proving it would be another story, but I do agree with your suspision.
