Looking to hear from you all about TMC? see alot of neg&pos on them and takeing it all in.Just didnt know what to do I want something were I can make money be home every weekend, and want to do all this and be safe doing it.I just got my CDL BACK IN NOV,Im fresh out of cdl school.and of course it was a 160hr course and all the local compyies wont hire me because of no back time.I do have prehire letters from both swift:biggrin_2553:and Tmc and have been going back and fourth with both of them. a little about me I have worked in an office for 12 years sell wholesale chrylser parts to body shops and they moved the bosses around i really loved my old boss but they put somebody in that does not want to work or learn the computers after about a month he brought us in and ask me how he was doing and what i thought of him. so i let him have it i was just honest told him he couldnt manage a flok of cows and he said yes i can i told him cows are not in floks they are in heards.nedless to say i was all ready in cdl school and was laid off my job so i went full time i would really like to hear more about TMC all of it the good the bad and the ugly.i am supposed to go to there training center in des monies on jan7th and after that didnt know if i will have trouble finding a trainer in my area (Palmyra NY)SO if anyone can give me the inside scoop i would love to hear it thanks

    Hey Parr3,

I first want to appologize that I cant give you any insight about TMC, but I noticed that you're from Palmyra NY, so you're not too far from Rochester. I just wanted to ask what CDL school did you go to. By any chance was it PDI (Professional Driver Institute) across from the Rochester airport? I looked into going there back in October 2007, but I decided to back out the day before my class started. I decided I needed more time to decide if I wanted to go into trucking, especially after all the time and money I've put into learning my current job. I currently live in Batavia, and I've been working at CSX as a train conductor out of Buffalo for about the last two years, but I'm currently furloughed (temporarily laid off) for the second time this year (and it doesint look like I'll be going back to work there any time soon), and so I've decided to consider trucking.

If you did in fact go to PDI for school, what can you tell me about it? How were the instructors? Was there any curriculum that they used besides just the NY DMV CDL Manual? Did they have you do any work on simulators? How much actual time did you get behind the wheel?

Like yourself, I also got prehire offers from TMC and Swift (although my uncle who has been driving for years had nothing good to say about Swift). However, I was never shown anything in writing (but I admit that I forgot to ask). Were you ever shown anything in writing about your prehires? I'd love to hear anything you can tell me about your CDL school expiriences.....thanks!

I would have to say steer clear of swift but tmc is ok from what I hear just that their real millitant and strict a buddy of mine that graduated school with me went there and quit. there is an old rumor that a guy stepped on the grass at orientation and got fired and my buddy said they tell you dont step on the grass and someone said tmc stands for trucker marine corps. thought that was funny I am going to maverick usa its another flat bed comp. I dont know if they hire ny but you could check. Just to let you know about swift I have 2 friends that work there who hate it say the company is screwing them I never talked to anyone who was happy with them. I went to millington, tn for their training and left 2 days later it was awful.

Yes that is were i went to school I was in the full time class started in oct8th was going to do it partime but i got laid off before the full time started so i lucked out lol.i have only one complaint with the school there is no backing time i mean you do straight line back ,i think i only got to do a 45degree back once both left and blind side.they do get you ready for the road test mark the inclass teacher is awsome.the yard instructors are awsome well one was lazy and only complained alot but he is no longer there because they give you a sheet at the end of your course to rate your instructors and me and 3 others gave that guy a bad review dont get me wrong he was great but only 5% of the time.there was 8 in our class on road test day well 9 if you count the girl whole fail the 1st time so she was retaking her exam that day with us so 8 of us passed that day 3 guys got 100% me i got 25 points taking off 5 for no air horn check on the pretrip and 10 for the parrell park (too far away and it took me 2 times to do it) and i forget what the other was for i know it was snowing alot nov6th took me 4 hours to get back to rochester.but your in class 3days for permitt prep and the you bobtail for 1 day and the you hook up the trailer and then its alot of road training downtown rochester and 12 coners in brinthon.well i hope i answered your? anything else just ask ttyl richard

    Hey Parr3,

Thats ironic! Oct. 8th was the day I was scheduled to start class before I decided to withdraw! Thanks for answering my post, and best of luck to you at your orientation with TMC! Keep us all posted as to how things are going for you when you get a chance to get to a comp!
