I've never seen a gun range near a truck stop, and I doubt you could get a truck into a gun range.
So, what would be the point?
Packing without ammo?
Plain pointless, if not stupid.

That regulation just made my head spin..what did it say ? Yea you can have your gun with you but depending how law enforcement feels they can nail you or not..
-
It basically said what I already said...just get a safe, put it in the safe. If you're in a state where your CHL is valid, it doesnt matter if its in a safe or not

These gun laws are horrible...If we have the right bear arms I should be able to take my gun with me everywhere / anywhere ..except on/ in private property based on the property owners rules not the government laws.

No! You are just asking for trouble and it's a dead issue.

So if you visited the White House, would you expect that you could enter with your weapon?

What it means is that you can TRANSPORT a weapon from one point to another if you can leagally have it in both places, it dosn't mean you can ride around the country with it! Also some places NYC , DC., Chicago do not honour that Fed law! In DC the gun is a felony, the ammo is too and if the mag holds more than 10 rounds thats a 3rd!. Leave it at home your better off.

What it means is that you have the right to transport a firearm from any location where it is legally possessed to any location where it is legally possessed, even if you pass through a location where possession is prohibited. HOWEVER, certain jurisdictions will STILL arrest you and the burden of proof lies with YOU to prove that you are covered under the law...not with the state to prove you do not meet the criteria. In other words, it is an "affirmative defense".
In order to be covered under that law, the firearm needs to be unloaded, encased, and inaccessible from the passenger compartment. You cannot make any unnecessary stops in jurisdictions where possession is prohibited, either...which means you cannot pick up or deliver a load, and even stopping for fuel, food, rest, or any other reason is discouraged. Basically, to be absolutely certain that you meet the criteria, you should just drive straight through without stopping. Once a stop is made, they can claim that the stop was a "destination" and therefore making you ineligible to claim exemption from the state's prohibition because you are no longer "just passing through". Remember, it is up to YOU to prove in court that you were, in fact, just passing through. You'll still be arrested. You're truck will be towed/impounded. You'll have to hire a lawyer (or have a public defender argue your case for you). Your trip will be delayed while all of this is sorted out. You'll have to pay to get your truck out of impound. You may or may not be able to get your gun back.
Is it really worth the risk JUST to go target shooting at a range every once in a while? I fully understand the "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" philosophy...because when it comes to your life, you've only got 1 so you need to do what you feel is necessary to protect it...but you aren't planning to carry any ammunition, so self defense is out. I'm not sure it would be worth it if your only reason for carrying it with you is to hit the occasional range for target practice in your spare time.VisionLogistics Thanks this. -
you can pass thru Chicago or any place in Illinois with your weapon as long as the gun is unloaded and encased. they both can even be in the same case, just not loaded
