The 2013 Volvo's have a 10 speed.
It was a welcome change from the 9 in the previous versions.
But, ya, if you're going left and up instead of far left and down you will be skipping a gear to 7th. -
Post how it goes driver the next time you drive.

I have A Freightliner Classic (1994 ) , 425 Cat , Mechanical , 9 speed OD Eaton with A shift pattern that has the last gear " up " on the H , where 3 would be , 4 was there instead. Same in high range , 8 is where 7 would usually be. When I got the truck we had to replace the beat up gear that you would instinctively think of as A " down shift " , but on mine it's an up . Had A Mack , 13 speed with the same pattern and it took A while to break the habit. These are old trucks , probably not designed that way anymore , but your description reminds me of the Mack , which had no shift pattern diagram mounted in the cab and had me scratching my head and using many bad words ! The Mack was an R700 , V8 Mack engine which worked very well for me ; despite all the bad press it got. On the Mack I found the variance quite by accident !

Sleeve w/out quoting ur whole post--both tranny u mentioned r what we used 2 call(still could I guess)a GEORGIA OVERDRIVE!! Lots set up that way back in the day--with 2 days newer boxes not much need although have seen a few 18 that way considered a double over--technically speaking has to do with the size of the cog u can run in that position what will fit in the box more room 4 bigger gear one in then against the wall
Just my $.02sleeve62 Thanks this. -
Eaton used to have the pattern on all trucks with an "o" in the name(ie RTO15715). The ones with an "x" were overdrive transmissions with a direct shift pattern (RTX15715). The ones with nothing were direct (RT15715).
I dont think they sell many if any with the flipped top two gears anymore. It does make it easier for the co driver to climb in and out of sleeper though.
