After reading some of the recent comments I think that many people have a severe misunderstanding of what these cameras are, what they do, and how they affect the driver, and I am talking specifically about cameras that face the driver.
Several of us that have actually used them, or actually know people that have used them have shown ample reasons for why they can be useful and how they are not invading privacy. Its like the electronic log debate, or automatic transmission debate, everyone knows everything and until they actually use one of those devices they think their opinion/viewpoint is the only "right" view on the subject.

I believe this comes in line with what I read about the Smith System and their ideals. I think it is a great idea for people to make sure they are looking out the mirrors like that because it doesn't take long for what I call a slider to overtake you; my husband has had this happen when he was in the middle lane passing a vehicle and then allowing the room to pass if front of the person safely, a car came flying out of nowhere passing him on the right side like a bat, he would have been at fault I am afraid if he hadn't have caught it as soon as he did. -
Besides cameras and audio,I hope they put smellovision in my truck.............I love chilli

What I find funny is that you think it is possible to trust someone 100%.
If I could trust myself 100% I would weigh 100lbs less and I would have a neat desk.
How on earth am I to trust someone else 100%?
Because someone can drive and behave well during the interview process , do you know for sure this is the way they will consistently perform when left to their own devices?
This is not something I am willing to bet me and my families financial future on.
You are obviously free to do so if you so choose.
Funny how often we see posts about the crazy things other drivers do but I bet they never did these things during the interview process.
The devices I have in my trucks only show and record anomalies.
Good drivers mostly avoid these anomalies as a normal part of how they work.
We cant even if we wanted to view or record our drivers at will.
These devices show up the difference between good and poor drivers.
This is often an eye opener to their bosses as it deals with facts and has no opinions or perceptions.
Favoritism or brown nosing has no sway.
My rear is in the sling as much as my drivers if things go wrong.
I have not only the right but the obligation to make sure as far as I can that safety is a top consideration.
These devices are there to highlight bad practices and bad apples.
So far I have not had to fire any drivers so I guess I have made some good choices.
Still I don't trust my ability and decisions to get this right all the time.
So I suppose you do have a point that it is partly because of lack of trust that I had them installed.GAlanFink Thanks this. -
For $100.000 I can get you in on the ground floor of this revolutionary new technology.Trust me..............I'm not like the others! -

Here's a recent DriveCam event I had. Occurred 01/17/13@4:30PM (PST). Traveling southbound on the 710 (Long Beach Freeway) en route to Conoco/Wilmington to pick up a load of Jet-A for delivery to the Santa Maria CA. airport. Traveling in #3 (of 4 lanes)@ 54mph. "Jose" in the container(lane #4) suddenly swerves to the left, into lane #3 as we approach the 405/710 junction. Meanwhile, "Jane Doe" in a Toyota Corolla decides she suddenly wants to be on the 405 north. She goes from the #2 lane, narrowly missing my left front fender, jumps in front of me (don't forget "Jose" in the container has now swerved in front of me too) see's the container and slams on her brakes. What did my DriveCam show ???? Me maintaining a safe distance and the "hard" braking that activated the camera showed the whole scenario PRIOR to me braking. What happened ? Absolutely nothing...My employer actually thought I had my act together..
GAlanFink, JoeyBowman, Meltom and 1 other person Thank this. -
I get to drive it.
On the positive side, these cams have repeatedly beaten the cops issuing tickets to the truck drivers who, by producing the evidence, have been found NOT AT FAULT. I can live with the camera but the truck deciding to brake hard for no reason whatsoever takes some getting used to.
As for the Spycam,... crank up the Led Zepplin !!!
Sure do miss my 2006 Freightshaker.
