I need to either get a Horton fan clutch rebuilt, part number 989298 or see if I can rebuild it myself. Does anyone know anyone in the northern NJ area that can rebuild it or where I can get a quality rebuild kit?

You can get a Horton kit at any truck dealer or heavy duty truck parts supplier.
You can also buy a rebuilt exchange unit that is ready to install.
If you buy the kit and do the labor yourself, you'll save some money, but if you buy the kit and have a shop rebuild your existing fan hub, you won't save anything vs installing a rebuilt exchange unit, reason being the kit is expensive as well as the shop labor involved in rebuilding it.

I was going to rebuild my old Horton clutch, but gave it up.
I bought the bare rebuild kit, then took off the hub, but the friction disk was 2/3rds missing!
I ended up with a low mileage one from a bone yard in Des Moines, Ia . Still using it to this date, and that was @4yrs ago. Cost was @$250 delivered IIRC.
    Just found the place:

If you end up rebuilding it your self look into kit masters they out last horton and are cheaper also consider converting to a two speed fan with there kit as well it saves a lot of wear and will give you more miles before having to rebuild it agin

Kit masters part number 14-256, they handle way more torque than a stock fan clutch, 6000inch-pounds I believe, as to the 2000inch-pound stocker, and way less parts involved. Ive been using them for the past two yrs and havent had any issues.

+1 for kit masters. That's what we use. Much simpler design and they give good instructions. We haven'tany issues with them.

+1 more for Kit Masters (Sounds like a cowboy name). They also have many videos on how to do the rebuild on youtube. Some Horton fans can be tough though and you may need a shop to do the work.
