Keep doing your homework there are many very good smaller companies out there and your chances of success are significantly higher with the small ones! Problem is that these mega-carriers make it too easy for the new guys to get hired on. The companies worth driving for are a lot harder to get hired on with. Hell its tough just finding them! They don't advertise like the big guys, course they don't have too. Their drivers are all happy driving for them so the turnover rate is nill.

Knight isn't a bad company but they are large. Go for the refrigerated division if at all possible. Your options for loads will be twice that of the dry van division. One thing to keep in mind about Knight is that they work on a seniority type deal in which the good loads and miles go to their senior drivers who have proven track records. As a new driver and new employee you will be doing grunt work for quite some time.

Be prepared for the wellness exam! I have never, ever seen so many doctors in one day in my life! I think I may have been violated a little...

I agree with you Chompi about a smaller company being better. This is my first driving job and a main reason i am going with knight refrigerated is for the squire program. I am new to the industry and am working on my cdl but cant afford cash up front for school. Knight has a program that gets your cdl and pay back little at a time. But I definitely agree and definitely will look for smaller once i get some miles under my belts. Thanks

Actually, most megas wont touch you in FL. Just went through this 6 months ago. The ones i found for someone wanting company paid training were Swift, Central Ref and CRST. Drivers out of fl going to Stevens, they require you already have your CDL, but will take students. Of course, things also may have changed since the summer..who knows
