    Is this school worth anything?
Have been thinking about going to C.R. England in Richmond Indiana. (This is a brand new 6 month old place).
The reason is that after 6 months you will finish your contract. With TDI you will pay about ? Will find out Tuesday how much the state will pay for
    on the WIA funds?

Also as a side note. If you can get your schooling payed for by the state, you can start out at a higher rate. Then after three months (right now) you can get hired in to almost any company. With the experience.:biggrin_2551:

Here is an interesting post that might help you, don't take it as gospel though until you verify what is being said.

I didn't think WIA funds were available in IN anymore. What did you find out about cost of school and how much if any is covered by the state? Thanks

Will find out this next week.
Since it was such a great program, that did work. The government has been cutting the funding.
In order to make people stop cutting money to the government.:biggrin_25523:

Glad to hear that WIA is still available. I plan to use it at TDI. Did you apply for it at BMV website or did you have to go to an office? How long did it take to determine if you qualified and how many $$$ you could get? Thanks for the post and any info.

You apply at the Work One office for your county. I attended a mandatory orientation, then scheduled a test (Test for adult basic education) met with a counselor, and filled out some paperwork. The process took about 5 weeks, but I could have completed it sooner. I received approval today and start my course on the 21st. The amount of funding the state offers depends on your income for the past 6 months. If you earned less than 5000 dollars the entire amount will be funded. If you earned more, it is pro-rated, depending on what your earnings were. My advice would be to get it done soon, follow through and stay in contact with the career counselor. They have a heavy case load, so you have to stay on them. Here is your Work one location-201 East Rudisill Boulevard #102 Fort Wayne, IN 46806

Give them a call, ask if WIA funds are available. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the detailed response. Though, as it turns out I won't be taking this route into trucking, pun intended, the info may prove valuable for others. After considering it I began to think that I would be delaying the process of (waiting for the funding), taking the 3-4 week private school course, getting the cdl-a, then going to a training company and paying for the hands on training (owing at least a year until tuition payoff), keeping in mind that one can get a cdl during the OJT process, sparing the need for private schooling.
I did consider the fact that doing the private school route (which if grant funded would be free-taxpayers expense)to get a cdl would give me a shot of confidence going into the company sponsored OJT and a leg up on the competition (if it's a large class you might expect they'll do some thinning of the herd).
I'm enrolled in and leave for Roehl Transports school in early Feb. Not sure if they recruit at TDI or the other school in ft. wayne but they (also millis and schneider) looked as if they offered the best training and treatment (pay, miles, and home time) when compared to the rest of the big league. I arrived at these three after 100's of hours of researching trucking website forums and news articles.
Might as well mention a few of the bad farm league teams too, which are C R England, Werner, CRST, and Stevens, based on popular opinion, which can be misleading without considering other info.
Had I saw the info you provided a few weeks ago I might have went the same route that you seem to be going and I hope that your info and mine will help others in deciding on a game plan.
Good luck and keep it between the yellow and white.

If you go through private school to obtain your cdl, you won't pay for company training. You will go to orientation, hit the road with a trainer for a determined amount of time, and be released to drive solo. I would strongly advise against CR England and CRST. They are the two with the absolute worst reputations. Good luck in whatever way you choose to go.
