I would think Schneider, Swift, Roehl, and others would bring you in for company training based on what you're sharing.
-
I thank you for the information I haven't contacted any companies as of yet I want to see if roadmasters will help me get my cdl first I have my permit just need the cdl if roadmasters cant help me than I will start calling the companies that have sponsored cdl training as that would be my only resort here I have tried local companies but none would hire me or weren't hiring
-
I'm going the company training route. I would think that training at a company would be preferential as you would be training to do the job that they expect you as an employee to do. I would expect the training staff to have done what the new employee will be doing in the near future. I would also hope that they would make sure you are adequately prepared for the next step as going with a mentor before you are passed through. This is a good way to see how the company operates as well.
-
I will go to the company paid training if I have to if I can get my cdl else where and find a company like sni or us express and such companies that will train you after you have your cdl than from my understading you get more cpm than you would going to a company like prme pam or any other company that pays for schooling

well...first you dont say what you did in your (last?) job where you were fired. if it wasnt driving, and you can find someone to vouch for the fact that you were unemployed (2 or 3 people actually) then perhaps you are better off leaving it off your work history.
if you are DEAD SURE that the speeding tickets were reduced, then why would you tell ANYONE you got speeding tickets? these will make it harder for you to find driving work, but reduced means you dont have speeding issues in your history.
6 months...even 1 year or more...of unemployment will not make it hard for you to find a job, provided as i said you have people that can vouch for what youve been doing in that time (ie. you were not in jail, selling drugs, working somewhere you dont want to disclose, etc) BAD references from past employers is much worse than no employer at all, within reason. and within reason is a longer period of time these days thanks to our fearless leader, the big o.
company school os not your only other option...there are private schools out there that will finance the cost. c1 in indianapolis is one that i know of. but if you do go the company school route, compare the REAL COST before deciding which one to go with. heres an example...
millis has company school. no cost up front, but you sign a contract to drive for them for 1 year afterward. they take $25 per week from your pay during this time, so the cost for the school is (25*52) $1300. if you add in the fact that most companies will repay private school tuition at the rate of $100/month, the REAL cost for the school is (1300+1200) $2500.
c1 cost was $4k financed...call it 4500 with finance charges (dont know what it would be today). so the real cost there would be 4500-1200 or $3300 after 1 year.
SOME company schools have an outrageous cost, and some have an unreasonable 2 or more year contract. millis is the best one THAT I KNOW OF. that is certainly not to say its the best, as i have no knowledge of the costs of most. but its easy enough to find out...call around. ask pointed questions like:
how long is contract? how much will i pay per week during the contract? how long til im paid in full? (millis school is paid in full after the 1 year) how much will i owe if i dont fulfill the contract? (if contract is 1 year, how much will you owe after 6 months? after 9 months?)
good luck in your new endeavor!trknfool and baggedextreme Thank this. -
So if it wasn't a driving job i don't have to worry about them finding out i was getting trained to rebuild trannys in cars by the owner but he had to run his bussiness as well and. said it wasn't working out. I do have a chance with roadmasters so i will find out monday if i can start tuesday
-
any school will be happy to take your money to get your cdl. find what companies that roadmaster refers to and then call them for a prehire. its the companies insurances that decides who's hireable now a days.
-
well roadmasters said that if I had 300 hundred down I could start Tuesday but then I don't no if I will be able to get financed so from where im sitting with no funds to actually pay a school money I am limited to what I can do.. I am however having a hard time understanding the fact of leaving my last employer off my application I have heard that they found out everything and If I leave something out than I am sent home immediately I can not afford to have that happen I need to have everything set before I go so that I can get the job and not have to worry about being sent home
-
im not suggesting this as a necessity (leaving a job off work history). they will find out about any driving job youve had...at least any one that reports to dac, so thats why i said if it was not a driving job. i cant imagine a scenario where they find out you worked at the local mcdonalds for instance, unless you showed them your tax records. no company has ever asked for mine. yes...if you are found out in a lie, they most likely will fire you, or in the case of a school might send you home. we live in the information age, and ive been a skiptracer in the past. i can find out a heck of a lot about you given access to the right paid websites. but old jobs are VERY hit and miss, even with access to the best information possible. did you apply for credit while employed with them? that would be the ONLY case i can think of where id be able to find employment info about a past job you held that you didnt tell me about. only way for a credit reporting agency to have employment info is to have it reported to them via a credit application. also very doubtful a COMPANY would get access to your credit reports...though a school that is financing you might. generally, though, those type of situations involve "no credit check" and high interest rate.
its up to you one way or the other. me? i wouldnt tell them about an 8 week long job that fired me, whether i thought i was fired unfairly or not. like you said, the guy probably will give you a less than glowing recommendation. thing is...for any period of time where you claim to have unemployment, a potential employer asks for references. and they DO call them, so if your friend john is one of those, you better know that john isnt gonna tell them you were in prison, a crackhead, or at a job you didnt disclose.Brianman72 and warrior81 Thank this.
